I have no trouble believing this. As a cable guy I enter stranger's houses and backyards everyday and I have noticed plenty of dachshunds with attitude problems. Little dogs in general, (particularly terriers), seem to be more aggressive, but fortunately they tend to bite at the ankles, which in my case are covered with thick leather boots.

There is also the issue of potential harm. When you're faced with an aggressive dachshund or Jack Russell terrier you know that the worst that might happen to you is having to get your calf stitched up at the ER. When you're faced with an aggressive pit bull it's potentially life threatening.

Depends on the age of your family members.

When our old, large dog (mellow breed) died, one of my co-workers ...... Surprise!!...... gave me a Jack Russell terrier pup.

Took it home. Kept it for a few weeks (including obedience training).

Then, one day, it lunged at our 3 year-old's face when he got too close to its food dish.

By the end of the week, the Jack Russell had a new owner. On the drive between our house and his house, the Jack Russell bit him.

Dachsies and terriors(sic) were both bred to go into badger setts after the badgers. For that job, quite a bit of aggression is a must. It also explains why they can be a little rough on the landscaping, too.

When I delivered papers as a teenager, I came to exactly your conclusion.

Dachshunds are nothing but ankle-seeking cruise missiles with teeth. I hate them with a passion.
