Empty gesture vs no gesture. Outcome same. Except empty gesture lies to your face to make you feel better. If I believed the guy actually would do this, that’d be one thing. I don’t believe he is sincere about it.
Every candidate since Nixon has made the pledge to reorganize government and slim it down. Balanxce the baudget, and pay down the debt.
It has never happened.Hearing McCain expound on how he was going to do it was deja vu all over again.
And this guy has been part of the gang responsible for this mess for the last twenty five years.
Oh yeah, it’ll be different this time.
Your thinking echoes that of most Americans. From Rasmussen:
“Tuesday, July 08, 2008
Seven out of 10 Americans (70%) think a balanced budget is good for the economy, but nearly as many (64%) believe it unlikely that John McCain can achieve such a budget by 2013 as he has promised...Despite Obamas refusal to make a balanced budget promise, tracking data shows that voters currently trust the Democrat more than McCain when it comes to balancing the budget.”
McCain is pandering, big time. The Dem congress will fund the continuation of the war with a budget that includes all their pet projects, and force McCain to sign it to keep the troops in beans and bullets. Never misunderestimate the wrath of a Democrat Party that didn’t get their Magic Negro elected.
The first thing that went through my mind when I heard McCain’s statement yesterday on the radio news was, “How long have you been in DC, McCain, and you STILL don’t know how it works?!” Even if McBrainiac doesn’t realize it, Nancy and Harry know that McCain wants the war to continue more than he wants just about anything else, so they will have him by the short hairs where spending (and much else) is concerned. This will be McCain’s “no new taxes” moment, a promise he will be forced to renege on.
