The idea of a Black National Anthem is a multiculturalist paradigm. A black freedom song, a black hymnal, songs that gave African slaves on American soil some comfort and hope in the midst of their suffering, and, for that matter, Lift Evry Voice and Sing these all fit perfectly into an American national identity. Indeed, all Americans should know such songs. But a Black National Anthem, when substituted for the National Anthem, means that there are two nations on American soil, a black one and an American one.

Black nationalism. ....the ideology held by B-HO's "church."
We have introduced a Black Hymnal (called Lift Every Voice and Sing, of course) and Spanish-Language masses at my church (Episcopal). I can’t help but think we are moving backwards, with separate this and separate that.
Just a racial separatist impatient for the reign of Obama the Messiah who will make racial separatism a national goal.
Lift every voice and sing
Till earth and heaven ring,
Ring with the harmonies of Liberty;
Let our rejoicing rise
High as the listening skies,
Let it resound loud as the rolling sea.
Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us,
Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us,
Facing the rising sun of our new day begun
Let us march on till victory is won.
Stony the road we trod,
Bitter the chastening rod,
Felt in the days when hope unborn had died;
Yet with a steady beat,
Have not our weary feet
Come to the place for which our fathers sighed?
We have come over a way that with tears have been watered,
We have come, treading our path through the blood of the slaughtered,
Out from the gloomy past,
Till now we stand at last
Where the white gleam of our bright star is cast.
God of our weary years,
God of our silent tears,
Thou who has brought us thus far on the way;
Thou who has by Thy might
Led us into the light,
Keep us forever in the path, we pray.
Lest our feet stray from the places, Our God, where we met Thee;
Lest, our hearts drunk with the wine of the world, we forget Thee;
Shadowed beneath Thy hand,
May we forever stand.
True to our GOD,
True to our native land.
(James Weldon Johnson June 17, 1871 - June 26, 1938)
lets not forget miss black America, black history month etc. what would happen if we held a miss white America? or had white history month? they are allowed to have theirs and not be called racist but Godbid we call something white this or that, we WOULD be called racist.
I think we need seven national athems. One for the gays and lesbians. One for the bi’s and transgendered. One for the blacks. One for the hispanics. One for the mooslims. One for the liberal elitists. And one for the people who just love America as it is.
Of course we would, and rightly so. Color should be irrelevant to such things.
Better to incorporate "black" into mainstream culture that to maintain separation.
Yankee fans act like God Bless America is the national anthem. Too much dilution of the Star Spangled Banner these days.

How about a national anthem for drunks...”99 bottles of beer on the wall”?? Hell why don't we have a national anthem for every damn “identity” group the Dems pander too. Ballgames will never start.
I suggest we observe a moment of silence equivalent to the length of the current National Anthem to reflect on the passing of the United States of America.
It was nice while it lasted.
What do you expect, they’re Yankees fans.
Ya think the League would wise them up as to the difference. If God Bless America is a prayer, then don’t put your hand over your heart, just bow your head. There is only one National Anthem, don’t dilute it.
I think the League is scared of little georgie steinbrenner and his juiced up thugs err players.
There fixed it for them. Let's call it what it is.
My keyboard is safe, but that comment caught me chorteling while offguard!
There is one National Anthem of this nation. Period. To attempt to replace it (thus this nation’s history) or make it one of several will bring about the second American Revolution.
