US, Czech Republic sign missile defence deal

PRAGUE (AFP) - US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Czech Foreign Minister Karel Schwarzenberg signed a bilateral missile defence agreement in Prague on Tuesday allowing a US tracking radar on Czech soil.

Washington wants the radar, twinned with interceptor missiles in neighbouring Poland, to counter the threat of an attack from "rogue" states such as Iran.

This is very BAD.

I wish the Czech Republic wouldn’t have went through with this. Now US liberals will have more of a foot in the door to enforce their policies and multi-culturalism on the Czech Republic. We went there last year and it was clear that US liberals were already trying to “change” the country.

We don’t need an Obama administration, Rhinos or Clinton holdovers in the state department influencing and directing the Czech Republic as they see fit. I believe that’s what a lot of this deal is about is getting a foot hold in Eastern Europe.

By the way ...

Iran is not going to lob missles at the EU. Germany is NOT going to invade Poland or the Czech Republic despite how many WW II movies or CALL OF DUTY video games someone’s played and the Russians aren’t going to invade. That’s just as silly as thinking Jamaica is going to start a shooting war with China. How do I know?

I keep up to date on East Europe and European news. Might move the family there for a few years.

I hope you'll accept this well thought out criticism of your opinion in the spirit in which it is offered.

You're full of crap.

Germany is NOT going to invade Poland or the Czech Republic

Which has absolutely nothing to do with why we want an early warning radar in the Czech Republic. This installation is to warn of missile attacks from the ME.

I certainly hope you're not paying money for whatever 'news' it is you're watching. If you are, you should demand a refund.

Iran is not going to lob missles at the EU.

You willing to bet Brussels or Prague on that?

I’m all for Iran not having the ability to hit the EU. We have a consensus there. We agree on that.

But there’s no incentive for Iran to lob missles at the EU.

Second, Israel and the US should take out Iran’s potential facilities. Heck, the EU should be willing to take out Iran’s facilities.

Just because I’m not for a US base in Poland or the Czech Republic doesn’t mean I’m some Iranian apologist. Seems like I shouldn’t have to make this point. And it doesn’t mean I’m an anti military nut. I’m very pro military.

However, there are many ways to skin a cat.

And I’ve seen firsthand how US liberals get a foothold in other countries and start CHANGING THEM. What’s so hard to understand about that?

I don’t want more involvement from people with liberal tendencies and sympathies meddling in the Czech Republic or Poland.

I don’t want an Obama administration who would have more clout in the Czech Republic due to a US base, demanding the Czechs to acquiece to his demands. I don’t want the Czech Republic being pressured by the State Department to take in thousands of high fertility refugees that would effectively change the Czech Republic virtually overnight as it has a low birth rate and only 10 million people.

I think this is perfectly reasonable. The US radar could be placed elsewhere. Or a strike ordered. It’ll cost major taxpayer funds to run a radar base and house troops there for decades. A strike happens once and the job is done - much more cost-effective and better ROI.

Put another way ...

US RADAR BASE IN CZECH & POLAND = Costs millions in taxpayer dollars to build and maintain it along with housing troops. Gives US liberals and Rhinos (Potential Obama Presidency) ability to influence and pressure the Czech Republic into accepting thousands of refugees, multi-culturalism, Climate Change demands, UN social cause demands, etc., etc.

STRIKE AGAINST IRANIAN NUKE FACILITY = Everybody wins. Iranians win. Liberals miss out on meddling in other countries. Taxpayers save a lot of dough.

The Czechs sent troops to Iraq, where the Iranian backed terrorists were defeated. If Iran can hit the Czechs, they can blackmail them to end their alliance with the U.S. The Germans, who were pro-Saddam and are pro-Iranian, would do nothing to stop this.

I hear what you’re saying and hope you read my previous post regarding taking out Iran’s capabilities for building nukes.

Even still, I do not want any US influence in the Czech Republic. We’re not living in Teddy Roosevelt’s or Regean’s America anymore where that wouldn’t be an issue.

Today - in 2008 — we’re living in an America where outright socialists are running for President.

And the demographic and educational trends clearly show that America will almost inevitably be a SOCIALIST entity and a gang-infested Brazil on the North American continent. I don’t want generations of politicians like Obama and Hillary being able to influence and pressure the Czech Republic.

First of all, the Czechs consider themselves Central European and not Eastern European which is a somewhat dated labeling left over from the Cold War. The Czech Republic is the most economically advanced of the 2004 minted EU members and among the least burdened by the old communist attitudes - which is why they consider an Eastern European label as inappropriate. Now, you might just know that distinction if you are up-to-date with “East Europe” news.

Stating that Germany is not going to invade Poland or the Czech Republic is old news and not indicative of one’s awareness of current events in “East Europe” and European news. The Iranians wouldn’t lob a nuke into Germany if only because of the large Islamic population that resides there (of course, that hasn’t stopped the extremists from massacring their fellow-Muslims in other arenas).

“US RADAR BASE IN CZECH & POLAND”

This is part of a missile defense system to protect the US from long range missiles from the Mid east. Any protection to Europe is coincidental. There probably are no such missiles now, and if such a missile defense system were in place, it is lot less likely that the terrorist ME countries would expend their resources on such devices if there was a good probability that they would be destroyed on launch. Its a lot better to prevent the problem than to try to live with it later.

Any Obama administration would defund the construction and/or operation of any missile defense system.

“Today - in 2008 — we’re living in an America where outright socialists are running for President.”

McCain may not be as conservative as others that were running in the primaries, but he is far from a socialist. Perhaps you have gotten this mischaracterization from this forum, which has a small, but very loud contingent of Ron Paul supporters who attack McCain at every opportunity as a socialist, painting him as no different than Obama, and urging people to stay at home. Besides, how would the U.S. force socialism on the Czechs by having a missile defense base there?

The Germans not only oppose meaningful sanctions against Iran, they are Europe’s largest Iranian trading partner. As for being pro-Saddam, they opposed the coalition’s efforts to remove Saddam from power and replace his regime with a democratic regime.

Would you rather have us treat the Czech Republic, like Chamberlain and Daladier in 1938?
