Get the Facts...on the Car Tax(Gilmore for Senate)

Governor Gilmore phased out 70 percent of the car tax during his term as Governor. The 4th and final car tax cut of the remaining 30 percent was supposed to happen under Mark Warner but he blocked it, claiming the state could not afford to finish the car tax cut -- just as he claimed the state had a budget mess when he raised taxes by $1.4 billion.

After cutting the car tax by 70 percent so working families would have more of their money, Governor Gilmore left Mark Warner a balanced budget as required by law and more than $1 billion in the state's Rainy Day Fund. Claiming the state had a budget deficit, Mark Warner stopped the final phase of the car tax cut, increased taxes by a record amount and raided the Rainy Day Fund twice! Then only weeks later, Mark Warner disclosed the state actually had a surplus -- not a deficit as he had claimed.

At the time Governor Gilmore began the car tax cut it represented 2.5 percent of the total state budget -- not a high percentage of tax dollars to be returned to working families. Today the car tax cut represents only 1.3 percent of the total state budget -- so when Democrats claim that even today the car tax cut is still causing problems for the state budget they are incorrect. The problem is spending. The state budget has increased by $25 billion -- a 50 percent increase in the seven years of the Warner/Kaine administrations -- with no further tax relief.

This election is about trust. Mark Warner is a big spending, high tax opportunist, a say anything to get elected politician who broke his word repeatedly to the voters. Governor Gilmore kept his promises and is a straightforward and principled leader who has proven that he will do what he says he will do.

Do you really want to elect conservatives? Do you really want constitutionlist judges? We have two scenarios. If Obama is elected then we need every last seat in the Senate to block his nominees. If McCain is elected we need conservatives to keep him honest during the confirmation process. Gov. Jim Gilmore is an straight shooting conservative who has a clear record of cutting taxes and support for conservative family values. We need more like him. I hope freepers put their money where there mouth is and help defeat the false moderate Mark Warner.

Really?

What is it about McCain's recent history that would lead a rational person believe that any conservative could "keep him honest" or change his mind about anything?

He has already made it extremely clear he does not want nor need conservatives with his positions, actions, statements, and votes.

Does he have to send you a personal letter to get you to see the light?

BTW, I agree about Jim Gilmore and if I can I will support him financially.

Virginia. Gilmore is the Republican former governor who cut taxes and balanced the budget. Mark Warner is the Democrat who succeeded him as governor. Warner is a dilettante who became a multi-millionaire in the 1990s by stumbling inot the ground floor of Cellular One, one of the first mobile phone companies. He is also dumb as a fence post and has a Hillary-lite shrew of a wife. Now they are running against each other for the Senate seat being vacated by Sen. John Warner.

I don’t really understand your angst and purposeful misleading statements about John McCain. He voted to confirm Alito and Roberts who are unquestionable conservatives. McCain has also held steadfast to no special rights for sexual special interest groups. He has held the line on abortion. He has held the line on taxes. He has even come around on Immigration. The only difference between McCain and G.W. Bush outside of the fact that McCain is considerably more fiscally conservative is McCain lacks a hallelujah chorus.

That said we need conservatives in the Senate. We can not afford to lose anymore Senate seats and we need to fill them with conservatives who will hold the line. If you don’t trust Obama or McCain the best thing to do is vote conservative in the House and Senate. We can whine all day long for better choices but when presented with solid conservatives then we have to do our part. Whether it is through money or just promoting them. Name recognition is going to make a difference in places like Idaho where Jim Risch is running. We can not afford to lose in places like Idaho or Virginia. The lose of Senator Allen’s seat was a horrible defeat.

So please look beyond your hatred of McCain. There are more ways to win than just having the President you desire. There are 23 Republican seats up for Senate election and only 12 Democrat seats. Do you really want the Supreme Court reloaded with liberals because if we see Obama elected you are going to see liberals like Souter and Moderates like Kennedy retiring. If they do it will place conservative dominance of the court decades away. We currently are one justice away from a clear conservative constitutionalist majority. I personally don’t want to sacrifice that chance because of my personal likes or dislikes of my party’s Presidential candidate.

As a conservative Virginian I was so glad that Jim Gilmore declared for Senate. He is so much more representative of Virginia than the Socialist crew that has taken my state by force. It is horrendous what the dims have done in this state - all for social programs that help illegals.. Mr. Gilmore has my vote!

The problem is spending.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

When states have problems with spending, the **first** place people should look is the compulsory government indoctrination camps ( oops! “schools”).
