Kuhner: The case for McCain
The Washington Times ^ | July 6, 2008 | Jeffrey T. Kuhner

Posted on 07/05/2008 7:23:57 PM PDT by FocusNexus

Sen. John McCain should be the next president of the United States. He is wrong on many issues - global warming, campaign finance-reform and immigration (to name a few). But on the central challenges of our time, he has demonstrated the judgment and courage necessary to be the leader of the Free World. In comparison to his Democratic rival for the White House, Sen. Barack Obama, the Republican maverick is clearly the better man - and the better candidate.

.....

Mr. McCain is the very opposite of Mr. Obama. The Arizona Republican is a battle-hardened war hero, who spent five years being tortured in a Vietnamese prisoner of war camp. On the other hand, Mr. Obama is a vacuous, antiwar leftist. He champions appeasement abroad and milk-toast socialism at home. His call for a U.S. withdrawal from Iraq would snatch military defeat from the jaws of victory. On abortion, he is to the left of many in his own party. Mr. Obama even supports partial-birth abortion. If he cannot honor the sacrifices of our fallen soldiers or defend innocent, vulnerable human life, he is not worthy to lead this great nation.

A contest between Mr. McCain and Mr. Obama is no contest. American voters must reach the same conclusion.

Man50D — you seem to be very confused. It’s Obama who is going to turn the US into a socialist country — and YOU are helping him, with your constant attacks on McCain.

On the contrary. My thinking couldn't be more clear. The GOP has been eager to incrementally move towards socialism over the years to expand the voter base and many, including yourself, can't see that fact because you are blinded by the R after a candidate's name. You are the proverbial frog failing to realize it is slowly cooking in the socialist stew. The GOP has moved so far left it has essentially merged their ideology with their socialist brethren in the Democrat party. They are in essence one big Republicrat party.

DON’T GET SCREWED BY A DEMCOCRAT - LET A REPUBLICAN DO IT.

Deja vu all over again.

Isn’t this the old “Vote for candidate A because he’s not quite as bad as candidate B” appeal?

Isn’t this how we ended up here?

Isn’t this just the two party Flim-Flam again?

Why vote for the other party’s bad candidate when you can vote for your own party’s bad candidate?

Check out man50d’s posts — constantly attacks McCain, as I said, but never has a single negative thing to say about Obama — all in the name of “conservative principles”, but can never explain how electing Obama as president will help the “conservative principles”, when he will stuff the courts with leftist activist judges for a generation to come.

Trying to make it sound that there is an equivalence between Obama and McCain is a well known Democrat tactic — nothing will please them more, than to have conservatives stay home and help elect Obama. It worked great for them in 2006, when conservatives stayed home to “show the Republicans” and helped hand Congress to the Democrats.

Then there was Ross Perot, when “fine conservatives” wanted to “show Bush I” and the result was 8 years of Bill Clinton.

well, whatta you going to do? obama is worse.

You keep telling yourself there are degrees of socialism and therefore it is acceptable to support what you perceive as the lesser socialist candidate before you know it you will have a full fledged socialist Congress.

McCain doesn’t deserve and has not earned my vote.

The GOP shows how lost it is by supporting the man who lead to its losses in Congress.

For the GOP to support him is sick beyond belief.

McCain isn’t trust worthy and by electing him you’ll end up supporting garbage that you’d gladly oppose if proposed by the Dems.

Just out of curiosity, is there any possible GOP candidate that is too repugnant for you to support?

This is not an election between your fantasy candidate and McCain. The primaries are OVER. McCain squeaked by precisely because we had some 10 Republican candidates and conservatives were so busy fighting among themselves. But, as I said, the reason doesn't matter at this point, reality is that McCain is the Republican nominee for all practical purposes.

It's McCain or Obama. If you are not FOR McCain, you are FOR OBAMA. Wake up and smell reality.

Thank you for proving my very salient point you fail to understand they are both dangerous because they are both socialists regardless of the fact they belong to parties with different names. It's no wonder the GOP continues its march towards socialism.

Trying to make it sound that there is an equivalence between Obama and McCain is a well known Democrat tactic — nothing will please them more, than to have conservatives stay home and help elect Obama.

How convenient to ignore the very simple facts McCain sponsored bills with socialists to grant amnesty to illegals(Kennedy), restrict free speech(Feingold) and support the human induce global warming myth(Lieberman) not to mention he has been funded by staunch Communist Billionaire George Soros. Apparently the socialist tactic of disguising one of their own as a conservative has worked well on you and many others.

This is not an election between your fantasy candidate and McCain.

The fantasy is trying to convince yourself one socialist will do any less harm than the other.

WHOA!

You replied to me, but I did NOT say this:

With McCain supporters the battle of ideas erodes to name calling inside the third exchange, usually in the first.

I guess there isn’t any potential GOP candidate so foul you wouldn’t support him/her.

McCain is where I draw the line.

I can’t swallow as much as you can.

"Then there was Ross Perot, when “fine conservatives” wanted to “show Bush I” and the result was 8 years of Bill Clinton."

Bush the elder defeated himself by going back on his word. If you want to keep on voting for politicians that can't tell you the truth ... it is your perfect right, and I'd like to know what gives you the right to criticize others because they don't want to support politicians that do not represent certain values.

If you think that John McCain will be good for this country and you will be proud of what you've done after you pull the lever for him in the voting booth ... good for you, that is what this country is all about. This 'vote for my candidate or consider yourself an idiot' attitude is getting moldy.

Which part of “the primaries are over” don’t you comprehend?

I should ask you — isn’t it too repugnant to you to support a leftist, Marxist, terrorist apologist Democrat, specifically Obama? Apparently not.

Socialists candidates with either an R or D after their names are dangerous for the country.

You are completely correct. Reminder: Stalin said the American people will never accept Communism as such so we will give them doses of Socialism until one day they wake up and find they have Communism.

"Is there any potential GOP candidate that would be too repugnant for you to support?"

Apparently not ... I would be willing to venture a guess that half of these folks would vote for Hillary if she had an (R) following her name. Yet, we are accused of being the uninformed idiots ruining the party for everyone else. Sheesh.
