Kuhner: The case for McCain
The Washington Times ^ | July 6, 2008 | Jeffrey T. Kuhner

Posted on 07/05/2008 7:23:57 PM PDT by FocusNexus

Sen. John McCain should be the next president of the United States. He is wrong on many issues - global warming, campaign finance-reform and immigration (to name a few). But on the central challenges of our time, he has demonstrated the judgment and courage necessary to be the leader of the Free World. In comparison to his Democratic rival for the White House, Sen. Barack Obama, the Republican maverick is clearly the better man - and the better candidate.

.....

Mr. McCain is the very opposite of Mr. Obama. The Arizona Republican is a battle-hardened war hero, who spent five years being tortured in a Vietnamese prisoner of war camp. On the other hand, Mr. Obama is a vacuous, antiwar leftist. He champions appeasement abroad and milk-toast socialism at home. His call for a U.S. withdrawal from Iraq would snatch military defeat from the jaws of victory. On abortion, he is to the left of many in his own party. Mr. Obama even supports partial-birth abortion. If he cannot honor the sacrifices of our fallen soldiers or defend innocent, vulnerable human life, he is not worthy to lead this great nation.

A contest between Mr. McCain and Mr. Obama is no contest. American voters must reach the same conclusion.

Thanks for the heads up about what kind of crap to look out for from the Obama camp.

Thanks for illustrating to Conservatives how far to the left the GOP has gone that the elite have conned you into believing McCain is actually a conservative.

You got to know that somebody posing as a FReeper is going to use the DNC talking points to slam the only viable candidate in the election.

I present you with facts cited from sources and all you can do is respond with insults and innuendos only shows how willing GOP minions have become to blindly toe the increasingly socialist Republican line.

I remember that interview with BOR and McNutcase.

The area that McCain is referring to is not at all “pristine”. it is on the Tundra Flats and a duplicate for the facilities found at Prudhoe Bay. It is an Arctic wasteland.

The heart of he preserve is 80 miles away in the Sadlerochit Mountains and the Canning River Drainage. In fact, from the proposed drilling area, the Brooks range is only visible a day or two out of each year.

McNasty makes it sound like the drilling will take place in the middle of the river and mountain passes. He knows good and well what the area is and looks like. He simply parrots what the demagogues from the Democrat party are saying and the ignorant public has no clue. The man is patently dishonest.

What are the odds that he would support Islam?

Probably pretty good considering he stated his admiration for Islam. John McCain: “I Admire the Islam”

You are right on taxes but you need to rethink this issue.

My thinking couldn't be more clear. I think about McCain reaching out to the socialist Democrats in 2001 when he considered becoming a member of their party. I think about John Kerry considering McCain as a VP running mate in 2004. I think about Communist Billioniare George Soros funding McCain. I think about McCain sponsoring bills with socialists Kennedy, Feingold and Lieberman to grant amnesty to illegal aliens, restrict free speech and further the fallacy of human induced global warming. Then for good measure I think about McCain stating in May his opposition, like the socialists, to drill in ANWR not to mention his support, again like the socialists, for a flat tax that will keep the income tax, the IRS and the 67,000+ page tax code instead of supporting The Fair Tax. That's what I think about.

With all due respect, I suggest you reconsider supporting a candidate who at one time wanted to join the very party and ideology you oppose!

The picture posted by Thinkin is reference to Farrakhan’s hatred for the US, and Obama’s support of Farrakhan. Obama’s church gave a lifetime achievement award to Farrakhan, don’t forget Obama was a happy church member for over 20 years. Obama’s pastor, Rev. Wright also made a speech right after the attacks on 9-11 and said we deserved it.

“****”Just out of curiosity, is there any possible GOP candidate that is too repugnant for you to support?”******

I love it. That sums up the whole debate. With your permission I have a new tag line.”

Apparently you find Republican candidates “repugnant” but not Democrat candidates, not even Marxist, terrorist sympathizer Obama. It’s very telling about the both of you.

Ah....now it starts with the lies and distortions after its own weaknesses are exposed!

You are implying, if not outright stating, that I support Obama, and that is a lie..not a mistake, but a lie.

By omission and failure to answer my question when you had the opportunity, you admit that there is no GOP candidate too foul and repugnant for you to support.

As another poster put it, you’d vote for Hillary if there was (R) behind her name.

If the best McCain’s supporters can do is attempt to marginalize those who does support him, attempt to coerce them, lie about them and offer Olympic quality manipulations of justification, then it shows us that McCain is just as foul as Obama but in a different way.

Be my guest!

Of course the McCain supporters don’t like having us point out that they support a man that:
A) Defeated the GOP majority;
B) Sponsored anti-Constitutional legislation;
C) Is about as dirty as they come in DC;
D) Is known to be of foul temperament;
E) Will sell out anyone, any time, anywhere for personal gain

But why is it that ‘some’ see failure to speak out about Obama is somehow support for Obama?

Again, thanks for the motivation !!

As I've said many times before, McCain supporters are just as sick and twisted as women who defend their cheating and abusive husbands by swearing that he really didn't mean it and that he'll change and the...(sniff) ...that they really did deserve it!

and thanking posters for pointing out McCain's genuine shortcomings and how he sold out the GOP for personal gain and media attention shows symptoms of your own abused woman syndrome.

In other words, sell outs.

This 'vote for my candidate or consider yourself an idiot' attitude is getting moldy.

It is what you do when you are deep down ashamed of what you are doing but can't bring yourself to admit it.

This is for you and all others who not only aren’t supporting McCain, but are working hard to undermine him and get conservatives to not vote for him.

I like the Dennis Prager article, because he very clearly explained the issue and consequences. Ignoring reality, doesn’t make it go away. Still recommend reading it and heeding it.

http://www.townhall.com/Columnists/DennisPrager/2008/07/01/why_i_support_john_mccain

The FACT is that there are TWO choices: McCain or Obama.

If you are not supporting McCain, by default you ARE supporting Obama. You clearly not only aren’t supporting McCain, but are working on undermining him (you and others here). The CONSEQUENCE of that IS that you are helping Obama, because you are trying to discourage conservatives from voting for McCain. Helping Obama to become president is helping to destroy the country, because Obama will surely do that. Just following the logical consequences of your actions. This is simple logic, starting out with the facts and following actions to their logical conclusion. Also nobody in their right mind can really believe that there are no differences between McCain and Obama or that “McCain is a socialist”.

When people insist on doing something, after the consequences have been clearly explained to them, it is clear that they are FOR the ultimate result, consequences, which are to help the US be destroyed by helping to get Marxist Obama elected, with a Dem Congress, even after seeing the damage the Dem Congress is already doing to the country. The consequence of undermining McCain is to help the Democrats get control of all three branches of the US government, and elect not just a “garden variety” Democrat, but a vicious Marxist, anti-American, terrorist sympathizer Obama.

There is NO way to reconcile anyone’s claim to be a conservative, when their actions WILL result in the above.

Real conservatives are responsible people, who will do everything to help save the US from Obama.

You can scream and yell, but the above is stricly logic.

==

“However noble their intentions, conservatives who do not vote for John McCain will be morally complicit in what happens to America during an Obama presidency.” — Dennis Prager.

Great. Then according to you, since I’m not FOR Obama, I am FOR McCain.

Now I don’t have to vote for either one of the foul creatures.

Conservatives who stay at home take away one vote from McCain, therefore Obama needs one less vote to win.

The Florida election was decided by 500 votes. If 501 conservatives had stayed home in 2000, we would have had Al Gore as president.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2041488/posts

“I am now committed to doing everything I can within my power to get John McCain elected,” Mr. Scarborough said, “because I am 100 percent committed to seeing that Barack Obama is not elected.”

Republican state Sen. Dan Patrick, a Houston talk radio host with a social conservative following, agreed. He said Mr. McCain’s appeal to moderates might irritate evangelicals, but most will show up on Election Day when faced with the option of Mr. Obama in the White House.

Actually we are the “country over personal ego” crowd.

“country over personal ego”

You wouldn’t happen to be related to the same crew that begat Schwarzenegger here in California. You want to talk about egos. ;-)

Thanks for identifying yourself so clearly. How is the ol’ FO account team anyway? Busy, I see, as usual.

Since when did McCain own their vote in the first place? You can't take something away that he never had.

You and your "fair opinion" are in true form! Go Arnold!

How many times a day are you required to bow down and worship the talk show host gods in your religion?

I don’t give a rat’s patootie what some stupid talk show host says. I care that John McCain WILL advance liberalism, and so will Obama.

All your stupid little points for McCain are predicated on the fact that the reader has to TRUST McCain. I don’t trust him in ANY area.

He will NOT appoint conservative judges, he WILL allow an illegal invasion of our country, and he WILL destroy the economy with his stupid environmental wackiness.

ROTFLOL!!!!!

Hey man,you and a few others here are doing a superb job at discrediting these "straight talk" believers, and so much so, that I'm just taking in all the wailing and gnashing of teeth these poor folks are directing at those of us who refuse to buy into their fear mongering.

It's evident they know McLame is going to loose this election, and they have to blame someone for it. What's really sad though, is that these same folks really don't want McCain as president either, but their fear of Obama is driving them absolutely insane, so they have to lash out at anyone who doesn't share their motivation.

You know were I stand on this, and to engage in foolish debate with these people is pointless.

But since they think that accusing us of supporting Obama, will cause us to change to their way of thinking, I suppose that we may as well get on the band wagon.

Obama 08! It's gonna be GREAT!

Well at least for a month or so.
