Tiptoeing on Bush and Convention
New York Times ^ | July 5, 2008 | SHERYL GAY STOLBERG

WASHINGTON — What if your family was planning a big end-of-summer bash (a Grand Old Party, you might call it) but preferred that you not be seen — or heard?

That is the question hanging over President Bush, with eight weeks to go until Republicans gather in St. Paul to nominate Senator John McCain as his successor. Convention planners, the White House and the McCain campaign are wrestling with how to choreograph a proper send-off for Mr. Bush — sure, his poll numbers are in the tank, but he is still the party leader and president of the United States — while hustling him out the door in time for Mr. McCain to look like his own man.

“Empire”? I didn’t realize we’d colonized Kosovo and Iraq.

Words have no meaning among the BDS crowd. Just toss them out there and hope your audience is impervious to actual definitions. Hell of a stategy there.

Always best to look passed what your "leaders" tell you and see reality for yourself. The British never colonized India nor the French Viet Nam, but they were part of their respective empires.

The stated goal of the British and the French was expansion of their respective empires. Iraq isn't even the slightest bit analogous. We deposed a mass-murdering terrorist thug and began the process of turning the country over to the Iraqis almost immediately.

The comparison is pure leftist hyperbole.
