The information about McCain’s birth and status as a natural born citizen is based on publicly available information, but not (as far as I know) documentarty sources. McCain needs to submit all the relevant documents relating to his birth so they can be subjected to the same kind of analysis as has Obama’s certificate of live birth.

Anyone born in a US hospital within the Canal Zone was considered a US citizen including my two kids.

How about a kid born to Panamanian parents in a US hospital within the CZ? Anchor baby? Or not?

John McCain's natural born status comes from his parentage, not from his place of birth. He could have been born in Lubyanka, and he'd still be eligible for POTUS.

“One of the issues in question is whether the Panama Canal Zone was part of the United States at the time of McCain’s birth. Turley said that military installations, such as the one in Panama, were sitting on leased land and were never part of U.S. soil.”

I am not arguing for McCain. I hope the courts find him ineligible because I don’t like him or trust him. What I am saying is that we did not “lease” the Canal Zone. The Canal Zone belonged to the tax payers of the United States…to we the people. The tax payers bought every square inch of it to have Carter, in the end, give it away.

“…most babies in his situation were born in a hospital off the base in Panama…”

If on the Pacific side, most babies were born at Gorgas Hospital, Ancon, Canal Zone.

On the Atlantic side, there was no Canal Zone hospital in 1936. Therefore, they were born in Colón, Republic of Panama.

My apologies to you, David.

I get too hung up on this Canal Zone stuff.

Thank you for your post concerning those two legal questions.

Between now and tomorrow, I will read it several times.

I appreciate your time you put into this research.

I am sending your post to my relatives in the U.S. who will also appreciate it.

Thank you again.

>i>"There is no parental residency requirement if the birth takes place in the US."

It is my understanding that if one parent is a non-citizen then the parent being the citizen (Obama's mother) must reside continually in the U.S. for five years following her 16th birthday. I don't think that happened. It is complicated, but McCain is more of a natural born citizen than Obama. However, neither is qualified to be President.

However, neither is qualified to be President.

The only qualifications to be President are found in the Constitution. By these, McCain is qualified. Neither one is suitable, though.

You forget that Alaska and Hawaii were organized incorporated territories of the United States; incorporated means that the territory is part of the United States, although not a state. An Alaskan or Hawaiian born before 1959 are Americans by birth.

No, they were born as Panamanians and not Americans. In other words, they were not “anchor babys.”

It was settled over 200 years ago by the Naturalization act of 1790.

Thanks!
