Will Talabani apologize for Barak handshake?

Several members of the Iraqi parliament called on President Jalal Talabani on Friday to apologize for shaking hands with Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak at Socialist International Conference in Greece on Tuesday.

Al Sadr Front MP Ahmad Al Massoudi accused President Talabani of violating the Iraqi law saying the handshake was a slap in the face for the Iraqi people. Ali A Adeeb, Al Dawa party, said the handshake was unacceptable calling on President Talabani to apologize.

The islamists can go to hell. Talabani is a good guy and his party has also supported the idea of diplomatic contacts between Iraq and Israel. I hope he won’t apologize, but guess it would be politically smarter to do so... which is sad.

Exactly what was the Israeli defense minister doing at a socialist conference? Likewise the Iraqi president? I'm trying to figure out which is worse.

I think that was Talabani, Abbas and Barak. They were attending the International Socialist Conference, which is an international gathering of democratic socialist and labor parties.

Not shocking that he shook hands with him. Talabani is a Kurd & Kurds don’t hate Jews. If he were an Arab, it would be surprising.
