I always wonder: if there is enough time (half a second?) to leap through the air and throw yourself on a grenade, isn’t there enough time to kick it away so that no one dies?

I would think that kicking it away could cause more damage, because the shrapnel of the grenade, and the ensuing explosion, would be more widespread, and could kill or wound many. It might have been a small area, and just moving it a few feet wouldn't have helped much. Monsoor knew that by throwing himself on it, he'd contain the explosion under his body, thereby saving his fellow Seals.

A true hero, as was demonstrated by the honor his fellow Seals gave him.

they have a body armor now that supposedly can withstand a grenade explosion, its called dragon skin. It is so expensive the gov wont buy it. Could have saved this young guys life.

I've seen information about that armor, but haven't seen any definitive info that it would have made any difference over what our young men have now. It would be the decision of the DOD and the cooperation of Congress, which funds it, to make an expensive change like that.

Your question also reveals what is on your mind, "future Marine Mom."

Well, I'm doing my best to be a Spartan mother and keep my mouth absolutely shut, and it should be emphasized that I am 100% supportive of my son's plans--I help with working out, getting the grades he needs, and preparing in every way for a career with the Corps. I take him to Annapolis to give him an incentive, buy him books about the military, strategy, tactics, etc., pay for membership in a range, gave him a gun for target practice. I also encourage him to hunt since hunting is a good school.

But obviously a mother worries about certain things, especially knowing my son as I do. Iraq doesn't bother me but Afghanistan does. What frustrates me is that as a non-vet myself, I can't give him any help or advice. So the remarks of people on this forum are of great help. Thank you all.
