Bump to above.
I dunno, watched a training tape where they used a frag on a DS vest, it held up.
Was the grenade between a concrete floor and a 200 pound body simulator on top of it?
If you are not familiar with explosives and “the tamping effect” you are not qualified to discuss this subject.
He was a real man. With people like him, we cannot lose.
I stand in awe, pardon my ignorance.
hero is tossed around too casually. it REALLY REALLY annoys me (to be polite) when some sporstcaster talks about a heroic catch by an outfielder diving into the stands.
An interesting thread on Dragon Skin.
It started last Feb and goes to this April. 14 months. Long read but shows the progression of the issue. Some good links also.

Of course you could just jump to the end and read the last page or two.
You have been reading the company advertizements again.
It is not that good, it failed in stopping bullets and no vest is capable of stopping point blank grenade unless the grenade misfires. Plus the vest only covers part of your body.
Im no expert don’t claim to be. It very well could have been something from the manufacturer I watched. If it doesn’t protect as well as advertised then there it is.
In situations like this, I always think of that quote from Jesus. Glad you posted it.
That, and tests that show it doesn't live up to its marketing hype.
Your question also reveals what is on your mind, "future Marine Mom." God bless you and yours.
Thanks for posting this. God bless the Monsoor family.
Google Jack Lucas Medal of Honor.
He was the Youngest Medal of Honor winner of the last century, and dove on two grenades to save his buddies on Iwo Jima and lived.
It is an uncommon act of Valor that seems to be a common Virtue among Our Medal of Honor awardees not the diving on the grenade but rather the selfless throwing of ones own life against incredible odds when there is no chance for survival one way or another.
It is always noted how many died in this one last brave attempt to save their brothers in arm but what is frequently ignored is how many have lived to die at home as examples of how a hero should live in honor and dignity.
Thank you Michael! You can now rest with God.
Real men honoring one of their own. Thank you for your service, Seals!
“I wish I could hear that something else could be done to save their comrades.”
I think that sometimes too .. but if he had stood up to throw the grenade .. would he have had time to aim it into a place where no innocent people would be hurt or killed ..??
And .. if he had stood up .. what were the chances he would have been shot and the grenade would have dropped back onto the roof killing all his comrades.
It’s sad that in WAR we have to lose our best and brightest .. but America will survive a long time if there are young men willing to give their life for the lives of others. Jesus said, “There’s no greater love than this, that a man lays down his life for his friends”.
Your a Hero Michael Monsoor. Prayers for his family and friends as well as all those Brave men serving this Country.
“There was no where to kick it to, it had landed inside their vehicle, ...”
I think that was a different event .. Michael and his crew were on top of a building - I don’t think they would have driven there ..??
But .. I do remember another incident where a young man did the same thing - when a grenade landed in their tank.
