Napoleon Man's Low-Profile Auto Aims For $10 million Mileage Prize (100 MPG 1987 Mustang)

NAPOLEON, Ohio - Doug Pelmear has lots of secrets beneath the hood of his black 1987 Ford Mustang on which the only outward hint of individuality is a series of stickers.

But looks can be deceiving. Mr. Pelmear's 21-year-old pony car has enough technological innovation to quadruple the classic Mustang's original gas mileage while almost doubling its available horsepower.

That's 80 miles per gallon and 400 horsepower, folks. And the 48-year-old electronics engineer and master mechanic is not done yet.

The third-generation automotive tinkerer hopes that next year his Mustang - more specifically its engine - will help him win the $10 million Progressive Automotive X Prize: a "race" to find an affordable, marketable automobile that gets at least 100 miles per gallon, or its equivalent.

"I'm an optimist, and I think people need to know there is hope out there," Mr. Pelmear said. "That's why I decided to enter the X Prize race. I could have sold this [technology] off, but then people might not have seen it.

"It's not about the money. Our country really needs this."

The Progressive Automotive X Prize is sponsored by the X Prize Foundation to focus attention on and improve technology for real-world fuel economy.

he could have an O2 tank pressurized by a turbo-exhaust unit and used at will plus a water recovery unit in the exhaust for the H2O injection

Napoleon, Ohio’s Doug Pelmear claims that he has created a V8-powered 1987 Ford Mustang that develops 400 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque on E85, can accelerate from 0-60 in about three seconds – on its way to a top speed of 180 mph – and still returns an astonishing 110 mpg.

Although a 400 horsepower economy car sounds too good to be true, Toledo’s Rocket Ventures, a subsidiary of the Regional Growth Partnership, has verified Pelmear’s claim, according to OzarksFirst.com.

Pelmear has yet to reveal what’s exactly under the hood of his Mustang – as he’s still waiting on a few patents – but says his work is based off the work of his grandfather who developed fuel-saving techniques during the 1940s.

Air-Powered Car Coming to U.S. in 2009 to 2010 at Sub-$18,000, Could Hit 1000-Mile Range

The CityCAT, already being developed in India (bottom left), will be available for U.S. production in three different four-door styles. But it's the radical dual-energy engine, with a possible 1000-mile range at 96 mph, that could move the Air Car beyond Auto X Prize dreams and into American garages.

Zero Pollution Motors (ZPM) confirmed to PopularMechanics.com on Thursday that it expects to produce the world’s first air-powered car for the United States by late 2009 or early 2010. As the U.S. licensee for Luxembourg-based MDI, which developed the Air Car as a compression-based alternative to the internal combustion engine, ZPM has attained rights to build the first of several modular plants, which are likely to begin manufacturing in the Northeast and grow for regional production around the country, at a clip of up to 10,000 Air Cars per year.

And while ZPM is also licensed to build MDI’s two-seater OneCAT economy model (the one headed for India) and three-seat MiniCAT (like a SmartForTwo without the gas), the New Paltz, N.Y., startup is aiming bigger: Company officials want to make the first air-powered car to hit U.S. roads a $17,800, 75-hp equivalent, six-seat modified version of MDI’s CityCAT (pictured above) that, thanks to an even more radical engine, is said to travel as far as 1000 miles at up to 96 mph with each tiny fill-up.

That thing isn't a car, it's an imagination of a Tonka Toy.

This guy is talking an actual car, a Mustang.

In that article he claims 110 MPG, 400HP, 500 ftlbs torque, 0-6 in 3 seconds. That’s absurd.

No it's not, he also invented a device that allows him to always be driving DOWN a hill! :)

bah.

Yeah. I posted that same video on my Freeper Page months ago.

There are lots of greedy industry shills posting here. They pretend to be good people and military veterans and even full time 'patriots.' Some even give generous donations. Organized crime sways the news media every day by buying air time. No Big Mystery here.

We are witnesses to clever hype and outright lies trumping the truth as never before in history. Time to wake up, people! Or just go pull the covers over your heads and ease back into dreamland.

I may know a few things . . . that greedy people in power do not want you to know ! R U Surprised ? Not really? Kinda or Maybe ? Don't give a rip?

That media kool aid is deadly. Any surprise that television news has turned into crazed paparazzi stalking pretty women 24/7 today __________ ? People actually give a shi'ite about Britney's latest short skirt blooper? Brain dead people give rise to brain dead media and vice versa.
