Philly radio station refuses to run Democratic ad By David Matthews Posted: 07/03/08 02:29 PM [ET] A Philadelphia news radio station has rejected a Democratic ad that features an impersonator of President Bush thanking GOP congressional candidates for supporting the “Big Oil” agenda.

Philadelphia KYW-AM Vice President and General Manager David Yadgaroff said his station decided not to run the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) ad because it was worried its listeners would be misled.

“As an all-news station, we were concerned that our listeners would have been misled by usage of an impersonator in the creative delivery,” Yadgaroff said in an e-mail sent to The Hill.

The Republicans should seize on this opportunity and state the truth:

“Oil is the lifeblood of our economy and we are proud to be associated with this most essential of commodities. Continued, propagandizing attempts to demonize the oil industry are AT ROOT, direct attacks on honest American businesses, and hard-working Americans of all backgrounds and economic status.”

As long as they are clear that it is celebrity voice imitation, then they should be allowed to air a political ad mocking any politician. Applaud the station but just fix the ad.

As long as they are clear ...

That is never clear for chrissake.

Hell, half of the country believes anything on the media is the absolute truth including fictional movies about aliens building the pyramids.

Toss it out with the rest of the trash

Actually, KYW runs a lot of conservative commentaries. The reporting is usually even, although it can tilt left. But the occasional commentaries are great.

They are running that here against Rep. Peter Roskam. It has a Bush impersonator leaving a voicemail for Roskam telling him to keep working to give breaks to Big Oil. I have to say the impersonator does a pretty good Bush, but the ad itself is likely not to work on the thinking person, who is going to be reminded of which party it is that has stopped and continues to stop domestic oil exploration, and that bears the lion’s share of the responsibiltity for high gasoline taxes.

If you remember the KYW jingle, you probably remember the Melrose Diner jingle too:

Ev’rybody who knows . . . goes . . . to Melrose.

they're doing the same ad against Brian Bilbray in San Diego North County.

The Democrats have given up any pretense at having even a modicum of integrity.

KYW, I listen 3,4,5 times a day!

I think they should run the ad. It has been getting bad press and everyone now knows it is a cheapshot ripoff.

Good thing for the dems, he left Philadelphia years ago.

KYW could get in trouble. It is not legal for a station to refuse a political ad based on content. That has been decided by a lot of courts.

Some years ago a racist running for office wanted to run an ad that used the N(Word). The courts ruled the station had to carry it.

Yeah. It seems to me that they really are counting on the non-informed, numbskulled, and intellectually challenged among us to turn out and vote for them. Who else would buy this crap?

Is JQ Public so benighted as to think for even one minute that someone besides “Big Oil” is capable of extracting, transporting, refining, and marketing any new oil?

Do these dimmycrap d!psh!ts think that JCPenney or Starbucks can do it?

That can’t be right. They can certainly refuse any ad based on content and they are the “deciders.”

Of course some idiot liberal will be along soon to cry “CENCORSHIP!!”
