The only reason not to burn whatever is because of a burn ban.
Books are not that sacred. The problem with “book burning” is the attempt to suppress information that others might seek. There’s no reason for me not to throw a copy of a book that I find distasteful in the trash or on the fire, if I own that copy.
We had a book of mormon that we used for some study or the other over the years. I finally threw it out because I just couldn’t bear to have in on the shelf. This, in a house with wall-to-wall books and several books on the other “Gospels,” that we also used for study.
The reference was to an incident of “mass” burning, a number of people burning unwanted religious books “given” to them.
IMO it’s a bad message in that context, but your right, and if Freepers want to collectively burn unwanted books given to them, that’s OK to me too,
Of course the referenced incident, search burn bibles, was Orthodox Jews in Isreal burning some New Testaments left at their doors.
Needless to say the FR reaction was quite different than what’s on this thread.
