Why isn't the McCain camp isn't looking at former House Budget Committee Chairman John Kasich for VP? Hey, when I worked in the House, Kasich wasn't my favorite, because he was a bit of a glory hound. But politically he is superb and substantively he is almost entirely solid. He was Budget Chair when they balanced the budget for the first time in something like 35 years, for goodness sakes. He's pro-life. He's quite clearly acceptable to conservatives of just about all kinds, but with the demeanor, working class background, and even the ethnic name that will help with moderates, independents, Reagan Democrats. Here's a guy who can help both in Ohio, which he represented, and in Pennsylvania, where he grew up the son of -- I believe -- a mailman. He has terrific people skills and speaking skills. He helps in Ohio more than Portman does -- he's better known, and represented Ohio longer -- and he is SO much more blue-collar, so much less boringly "white bread," than Portman that the difference is stark. He is better known nationally, too due to his regular hosting of a show on Fox News Channel and due to two reasonably well-selling books. Because of his geographical and working class roots, he is PERFECTLY positioned to help McCain exploit Obama's weaknesses in the rust belt and probably Appalachia as well. He's the perfect age, 56 -- old enough and experienced enough clearly to do the job and to outshine Obama's thin resume, but plenty young enough to balance McCain's age and to reassure folks that there will be more than enough energy at the bottom of the ticket as well as the top. Politically, he would be a home run. He deserves very very very strong consideration.

Kasich has charisma and is conservative. I think that he compares very favorably with Tim Pawlenty, Tom Ridge, or Romney.
Kasich has charisma?
Surely you jest.
He’s unwatchable on Fox when he subs for O’Really.
Kasich? Not only no, but hell no.
He’s a gun grabber.
Didn’t John Kasich pal around a bit too much with Gary Condit before deciding (about the same time that Condit was under scrutiny for murder and extremely weird gatherings involving rubber suits) that he didn’t want to be a congressman anymore?
I agree, I always turn it off, well...I turn it off when O’Reilly is on too! LOL
Kasich is over politics. He has seen the light.
No charm...no charisma. The Factor is a bore when he’s on. I’ll take Mitt, thank you.
Actually, Kasich sometimes gets higher ratings than O’Reilley when he subs for him
Please advise me the VP candidate who is “perfect” in every way, besides Duncan Hunter.
Although Strickland has been very popular among the masses & there are rumors Mike DeWine will run as well.
Not a bad idea.
However, Pawlenty already has it in the bag.
We all knew he HAD and had even stated that calls were running 80% AGAINST the bill, but the "constituents didn't really understand it"!
Congress got the copies of this (3700 page)rotten piece of legislation on a Thursday (if memory serves)and had to vote on the following Tuesday.
Big surprise....Kasich voted FOR it!
not really-word here in OH is that he may take a run at Strickland (Gov)
Yes, he did pal around with Condit. Kasich's exit from Congress always seemed a bit mysterious to me. I would imagine the MSM would be dredging this up if Kasich would get selected to be on the ticket, which is why I bet he won't be selected.
I hear you. Ever since O’Really went off on his hit piece on FreeRepublic, I can’t watch him any more. A minute or two is all I can take.
It’s always all about HIM.
Not the “folks”.
Kasich ran for President in 2000 , but was outgunned by GWB fund-raising machine.
I like him because he will win the votes of moderates and Reagan Democrats. He may not walk on water, but he can make a difference in Penna, Michigan, Ohio, and even Minnesota.
I have seen Pawlenty on television a couple of times. He is adequate, but I don’t think he will sell that well out of Minnesota.
Get real.
I believe it’s going to be Romney.
I’d MUCH prefer Hunter. But I bet it’s Romney.
A Pittsburgh broadcaster with some connections in Washington says he was told it will be Romney. Should be interesting to see if he’s right. His sources have given him some pretty accurate information in the past.

My hubby will immediately flip the channel at the sight of BOR. LOL
Still, I have to admit that, at a purely visceral level, I would be very happy with his selection for the veep spot.
