McCain: Obama Should Cut Wesley Clark Loose.
ABC News (blog) ^ | 7/1/08 | Bret Hovell

Posted on 07/01/2008 5:00:55 PM PDT by hole_n_one

ABC News' Bret Hovell Reports: John McCain, taking questions from reporters aboard his Straight Talk Express: The Airplane Edition, said it was time for the campaign of Sen. Barack Obama to cut retired Gen. Wesley Clark loose.

"I think it's up to Sen. Obama now to not only repudiate him, but to cut him loose," McCain said to a small group of reporters somewhere between Indianapolis, IN, and Cartagena, Colombia.

For two days, the Obama campaign has been off message, forced to manage the fallout surrounding comments Clark made about McCain's war service in a broadcast interview Sunday. The highly regarded former Supreme Allied Commander of NATO said of McCain, whose plane was shot down and was later held captive in Vietnam, "I don't think riding in a fighter plane and getting shot down is a qualification to be president."

Onboard his plane Tuesday, McCain was asked if Obama -- who did reject Clark's comments on Monday --had done enough to repudiate the general. He didn't take the bait. "That's up to others to decide," said McCain. "I'm not going to worry about the comments General Clark made."

He implied that Clark's comments were a distraction, saying they didn't help solve the economic woes of the United States.

The wide ranging media avail was divided into 2 parts because of space concerns. About half of the 20 members of press traveling with the campaign joined McCain at a time in an area on the plane specifically designed for the flying press conference.

In the age of celebrity worship.

Wesley Clark had one thing going for him - he’s damn good looking. He has one thing going against him - he’s a moron.

Silence is golden, McCain.

Is he running to win or just running?

Highly regarded? By whom?

“McCain said to a small group of reporters somewhere between Indianapolis, IN, and Cartagena, Colombia.”

That’s a lot of somewhere.

Clark is the start of the Swift Boating of McCain. Now Webb has joined in.

Webb: McCain Should 'Calm Down' on Using Military Service

Won’t work because the Swift Boating was based on truth. The dimocRAT tactics as usual are based on lies but widely supported by the msm. .

Expect more. Attacks on veterans started with Kerry. What goes around comes around.

Wesley Clark is just one more of Osama’s low down friend. Obama is surrounded by low life. It is almost laughable that Clark was talking about the judgeent of Obama. Obama was the one who sat in an evil church for 20 years and did not even know the difference.

'Attempted' swift boating. To actually swift boat McCain then they would have to drag up people who were in the military and worked with McCain and can repudiate claims McCain has made about his military service. Thats not likely to happen.

Wow...Lanny Davis just blasted Ashley Wilkes on The Factor. Rick Santorum up now for our side...says there’s NO WAY that Clark was a free agent on the Sunday shows. It was a strategic coordinated effort by Barry. And Rick thinks it was a smart idea because it puts Barry in the spotlight for July 4th with the cloud of McCain—it’s a one-two punch for them. Huh? Lanny says it makes no sense and that Barry has a big patriotism problem.

RUSH: This guy's not what he seems. He is deceptive. He is diabolical. He's downright mean. What they are trying to do with McCain here -- with genuine lightweights, like Wesley Clark and Rand Beers who could not wear John McCain's jockstrap -- is breathtaking to behold.

Lanny says Barry has a patriotism problem and then later that he has no doubt that Barry is a great patriot who loves his country. Huh?

Clark is the start of the Swift Boating of McCain. Now Webb has joined in.

Your use of the term Swift Boating is completely inappropriate. The Swift Boaters told the truth about Kerry's piss poor record and his treasonous actions after his service. This b.s. from Clark and Webb is just that...b.s. McCain's service was honorable and even awe inspiring. Neither of these clowns or their messiah have ever done anything nearly so remarkable or commendable.

"I don't think riding in a fighter plane and getting shot down is a qualification to be president."

He's right about that.

But it's a heck of a lot more than Clark's guy's got going for him.

Dear Senator Webb,

I am sure that with your views on avoiding the politicization of military service you were quick to condemn Jon Carry’s nauseating “Reporting for Duty” on-stage charade at the 2004 DNC, right?

A more extreme politicization of military service has not occurred in living memory. Indeed, I cannot say when the last time a Presidential candidate relied so blatantly and opportunistically upon his military service as Jon Carry.

After all, you would not want to see Jon Carry utilize his Purple Hearts in such a partisan manner to spring himself into the highest political office in the land, right? And you would have been quick to go on talk shows in 2004 and tell Jon Carry he ought to “calm down” and stop using his military service as a springboard to political office, yes?

Please tell us that you did this, Mr. Webb. We would not want to choke on your hypocrisy after all......
