There’s nothing particularly objectionable about the lyrics of the song she sang, but it just isn’t the Anthem she was retained to sing.

This was originally performed in Jacksonville, Florida, by children. The popular title for this work is: THE NEGRO NATIONAL ANTHEM. The first few lines of this Ole Black spiritual are:
Lift every voice and sing
Till earth and heaven ring,
Ring with the harmonies of Liberty;
Let our rejoicing rise
High as the listening skies,
Let it resound loud as the rolling sea.
It’s a nice song for Church, but it’s not our National Anthem.
