The Castle Law became law about two months before Horn's confrontation. NOTE: two Freepers got hat tips: Paleo Conservative for his remarks, and Alligator, for the Einstein quote.

The dead criminals were in the country illegally to rod and steel from rich Americans. ...they just keep leaving out that part!

So there WAS an eye-witness.
P.S. the character played by Michael Caine in the original “Get Carter” was as much of a bad guy as the guys he was killing.

They don’t seem to address that these two men would be alive today had they not decided to steal property from its rightful owner.
You can bet, from the attitude of the 911 operator, that the “detective” in the street would have let them go.

I feel safe to know we can call 911 and the brave officer will promptly show up and duck behind the steering wheel.

Hahaha....Brilliant!
This is one story that caused an argument to break out every time we did an update. I was raised in the country: if you saw someone break into your neighbor’s place, grab a gun and go get ‘em!
Others here had different upbringings.
Oh well, that’s what makes the world go round!
Since there’s discussions every time we did a Joe Horn story, I was always afraid the story sounded schizophrenic: one paragraph is pro-Joe, another anti-Joe.
I guess it ended up being balanced that way, though.
All comments here are great!

Don’t be surprised to see our wonderful Justice Dept. get involved, all broken up about the rights of the poor, unfortunate, innocent “undocumented workers”.

America! Where every man was a king, his spouse was a queen, his well educated children were his pride and legacy, his home was his castle and they were as sovereigns on their own land, enjoying the control that ownership had always provided!!!
Alas... it is no more!!!
Now even the fish in one's own pond, or stream are the state's and a license/permit is required to fish in it!!!
This is progress??? This has been the looting of America's hard won tradition!!!

A 911 operator miles away on a telephone is not able to properly assess the situation. If more incidents like this occur, we will see a dramatic drop in crime...

Notice to all FReepers
Do not assume that Texas law gives residents of your state right to shoot a person fleeing, or a person outside your dwelling even though they may have been inside, or any person at any time, ESPECIALLY, THOSE FLEEING FROM THE RESIDENCE OF ANOTHER.
Check with a lawyer knowledgeable with the laws of your state before you even think about ever employing deadly force.

I feel safe to know we can call 911 and the brave officer will promptly show up and duck behind the steering wheel. Discretion is sometimes the better part of valor. Had he got out he might have gotten shot.

It's much worse when you live in a state where the “Holier than thou licensed firearms instructors” are brainwashed into believing they must train you to “run and hide” first, and make sure your firearms are disassembled, locked up, the constituent parts are in different rooms, and the ammo is buried under your neighbors garage...

Only the ones that Americans don’t want to rob and steal from.
