Bo'bucker holed up in his house. Kicked his cheatin' wife out, piled her stuff in the front yard, etc...
Cops show up and the guy won't come out. Hadn't really threatened anyone, just wanted to be left alone. In marches the Sturm Troopen, who surround the house and start planning up a dynamic entry.
They kick the front and rear at the same time. Guys in the back weren't paying attention when it was mentioned the guys in front would toss a flashbang. FB goes off, guys in back open fire, first SWATtie through the front door gets a 9mm through his skull.
They swiss cheese the po'buckers house with almost 1200 rounds without hitting him. They charge him with murder although he didn't even have a 9mm in the house anywhere. The HK Mp's the SWATties were toting were 9mm.
Looks like they never did do much to reign 'em in either...
Minor change. They did manage to hit the po’bucker once. Grazed him...
That case is an prime example of what happens even to LEO’s when everybody is unfamiliar with weapons. Specialist training is a weak substitute in a culture for maintained general knowledge. Why? Many reasons!
That is, a case like you describe would have been ridiculed by everyone -- at every level of society. And because of the fear of being so shamed it wouldn't have happened. A person acts with more integrity, more easily -- off the top of the head, almost, about stuff that everybody knows how to identify how he did with it. Stuff everybody knows about.
We have been de-weaponized since Sullivan, since the greater "Temeperance" movements, since Miller, and as a culture we suffer. The founders KNEW! That's why exactly the second is worded just the way it is.
I'll give an older version: "Since a dedicated priestly class is necessary for the security of Israel, the right of the Israelites to practice their religion shall not be infringed."
And that, boys and girls, is where the problem started. Faced with the same situation, I would have dialed the guy up on the phone. If he wouldn't talk, I would have sent a couple of uniforms with good bulltproof vests (and their weapons in their holsters!) to staaple a summons to his door for disorderly conduct. Then, if I still thought that the guy might be likely to come out and cause trouble (even though there appears to be no real evidence of it) I'd post a couple of uniforms there in a squad car, and go grab something to eat. The dude's not going to stay in there for the rest of his life.
Never, never never should a guy burning furniture on a lawn have led to a situation where people were willing to use deadly force against him.
BTW, are you sure about those 1,200 rounds? Seems like a lot even for a cluster like this.
Jeez, there’s just no end to it, nor is there any stopping them.
