Not sure: I was replying to oswegodeee who used that convention. I think it comes out of some readings of the Bible that prohibit the full spelling out of the Deity's name, and indeed if you look at the original Hebrew of the Bible the Name omits the vowels ("YHWH" with the a and e removed).
