I’m surprised that even the WSJ would be brave enough to throw down the gauntlet this hard.

The Left is a religion. Its theology is Gaia worship and its apostle is Algore.

HGTV has become unwatchable, thanks to the green movement. Macy's has gone green, so I no longer shop there. The Gore scheme says that we must all conform. Except for Gore himself, of course.

This global hysteria is an experiment in mass mind control.
Like the feminists, the homosexual agenda, and even more sinister, the vegan movement, the greens want to tell me how to live and what to think. And you, too. We must all conform to their world view. Sorry, no thanks. I have been a sensible and responsible adult for most of my life, and I don't need a bunch of hysterical cheerleaders to manage my life or my thinking for me. Please pass the DDT:)

CO2 is roughly 1/3 of one percent of our atmosphere. It has risen .08% in one century so the scientists say, not sure I trust this claim but.....  These are very small portions of the earth's atmosphere and are too small to influence world temperatures. If CO2 rises to 6-7% I seriously doubt that increase can raise temperatures much or create a runaway greenhouse effect

The worst thing about hysteria and blind faith is that they mask truth and prevent it from revealing itself. And truth, of course, is what we need.

Maybe there's something to it, but with so much panic-stricken hyperbole, agenda-driven propaganda, and downright foolishness obscuring the issue--it's hard to know whether the sky's really falling or somebody merely got hit on the head with an acorn.

One thing's for sure: There are lots of Foxy Loxies out there eager to profit from the hysteria--and fanning its flames!

In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if some Foxy Loxy hadn't started the whole thing by chunking the acorn onto Chicken Little's head to begin with.

Hewlett Packard is one of the US firms pushing hard for NATIONAL legislation to force Cap & Trade fees, establishing fees that discourage non-green activities, and forcing vendors to collect ‘fees’ based on the environmental impact of your monitor or TV screen size (ala CA which now assesses a fee based on screen size), etc. They are against state control because it isn’t ‘strict’ enough. They have aligned themselves with the most extreme efforts of the World Wildlife Foundation to magnify the scare messages around human-caused global warming. They support and are active in trying to import the European restrictions and controls on vendors as well as consumers for using non-green products.

The religious parallels go very deep. Examples include the ‘final goal’ of environmentalism being ‘The State of Nature’, synonymous with socialist theory, and identical to ‘The New Jerusalem’ in its intermediate form and ‘The Garden of Eden’ in its final form.

The Asceticism of environmentalism goes beyond the self-denial, moral inhibition and sexual repression well known to medieval religion, it even extends into ‘The Mortification of the Flesh’, which in times past meant flogging onesself, but today probably means vegetarianism and driving a Prius covered in smarmy bumper stickers.

And, of course, environmentalists are very focused on ‘End Times’ and the final battle between ‘Good and Evil’ (which gets funny because they are moral relativists as a rule, so define good as ideological purity, and evil as everything else.)

And the hypocrisy is too thick to cut with a knife, like the wealthy priest who tells the poor how they are more righteous than the rich, so should give their wealth to his church. How righteous to gorge yourself as a “sin eater” during the time of famine.

In this case, the wealthy countries should feel guilty about the poor countries, yet give their wealth to the environmentalists.

Unfortunately, the bottom line of trying to use science as voodoo, instead of an invisible monster deity who punishes the infidels and rewards the repetitious faithful, lacks something. Probably the concept of hell.

And surely it is in keeping with this essentially religious outlook that the "solutions" chiefly offered to global warming involve radical changes to personal behavior, all of them with an ascetic, virtue-centric bent: drive less, buy less, walk lightly upon the earth and so on. A light carbon footprint has become the 21st-century equivalent of sexual abstinence.

Environmentalism provides two of the essential elements of religion--purpose and meaning.

“...Socialism may have failed as an economic theory, but global warming alarmism, with its dire warnings about the consequences of industry and consumerism, is equally a rebuke to capitalism. Take just about any other discredited leftist nostrum of yore – population control, higher taxes, a vast new regulatory regime, global economic redistribution, an enhanced role for the United Nations – and global warming provides a justification.”

Touche.
