DULUIYAH, Iraq, June 29 (UPI) -- Iraqi officials said six police officers and another victim were killed Sunday in a truck bomb blast about 45 miles north of Baghdad.
The explosion happened on a road in Duluiyah where a parked truck packed with explosives was detonated with a remote control device, CNN reported.
Included among the dead were six Iraqi police officers and a member of the local Awakening Council, a group comprised of Sunni Arabs recruited by the United States to oppose the activities of al-Qaida In Iraq.
Meanwhile in Basra, at least seven gunmen in two cars shot and killed a government intelligence chief, an Interior Ministry official told CNN.
The official said Brig. Gen. Jabbar Amsaed, head of the intelligence department of the national police in Basra, was driving alone in his car when the gunmen intercepted him in the al-Ghadir neighborhood, known to be a stronghold for militias loyal to Shiite cleric Moqtada Sadr.
Why aren’t Iraqis criticizing this? Oh I forgot, it is Muslim on Muslim violence so it is pefectly acceptable.
