Chris brings up the fact that we may be looking at up to three (count them) SCOTUS appointments...so is this election about the Court--asks Chris. Juan says--oh, every time we think it's going to be, it never is. (Juan, some of the Justices are really old! How can it not be?) Brit is looking at Juan as if he is truly out of his mind. Juan continues with the point about which base will get more excited...he thinks it's the liberal base. Brit jumps in (thankfully to shut Juan up) and brings up the Hillary voters who will think it's a very important issue. Juan and Mara think that McCain has more of an opportunity to change the court, Barry would keep it as is.
Juan goes on--if McCain could put in people with more energy and act as if the constitution is not a living document (huh??) and be in touch with the reality of our lives...what are they thinking? Where do they live? What is going on up there? (Juan, we ask that about you each week.)
Brit--uh, Juan, I think what is going on up there is that the Court is looking to the organic law of our Constitution and interpreting what those words mean. Now Juan--instructs Brit in his fatherly manner--there's nothing about that decision that would let kids or crazy people have guns. Brit tells Juan his examples (Columbine, city crime, etc.) are a gross exaggeration. Bill brings up the crime problem in D.C. and Juan insists that if we all had guns we'd be killing our husbands and wives. Brit must again spank Juan by reminding him of the old saying--if you ban guns, only criminals will have guns. It's an old saw, but there's wisdom there. Juan--guns scare me. And it seems to me we have an invitation to have more. Chris assures Juan--nobody packs heat on the Panel.
Chris asks if the conservatives are still in charge of the Court and Bill says it's the Kennedy Court, he being the swing vote. Chris--and Brit, because I know you'd like to beat up on Justice Kennedy, your feelings? Brit says he doesn't have the clarity and force...he gets into the swamp of relativism and when he starts evolving the standards of this country, there is no tether on the man and he and the other Justices can go anywhere they want.

Thanks for the thread, Alas. And many thanks to those of you who watch and report what’s said. I had to leave home in the middle of one of Juan’s spews and that didn’t hurt. Except that I miss seeing his stricken, dazed look when he’s knocked on his rear. Especially by Brit......fun to watch! My VCR is busted, so I look forward to your posts.

There are a couple of justices taking their meds to try and hang on till a democrat is elected.
Be afraid... be very afraid.
