I think it's exactly what he wants. What's really the central point of this story? That "Obama is not a Muslim." The same applies to that WaPo story about the email and FR yesterday: "Obama is not a Muslim."
The two main media arms of his campaign, the NYT and the WaPo, are getting the word out, so Obama doesn't have to actually confront the facts (and risk losing Muslim support) that he was born a Muslim, registered in school in Indonesia as a Muslim, received instruction in Islam as a child, and has many relatives in Africa that are Muslims.
