A recent article on OneNewsNow featured comments by Methodist pastor Kirbyjon Caldwell, a Barack Obama supporter. The pastor took issue with James Dobson's contention that Obama distorts the Bible with his theological views.
Caldwell, who is affiliated with the website JamesDobsonDoesntSpeakForMe.com, initially told OneNewsNow that the website was operated by Matthew 25, a political action committee working with Obama supporters. However, upon investigation, it was found that the site was actually registered to Alyssa Martin, an intern in the Obama campaign's "religious affairs" department. The domain registration has since been changed to Pastor Caldwell's name.
In an earlier interview, Caldwell told OneNewsNow he did not know Alyssa Martin, but on Thursday afternoon admitted the intern had been helping him set up the website. He also reported that to his knowledge, she is no longer with the Obama campaign.
Caldwell pastors 14,000-member Windsor Village United Methodist Church in Houston, but is perhaps best known for delivering the benediction at both of George W. Bush's presidential inaugurations. He also performed the wedding ceremony for the Bushes' daughter, Jenna, last month.
According to the Washington Post, Caldwell has "for months" participated in a weekly call-in prayer meeting with members of Obama's campaign staff, and talks regularly with staffers who oversee the Democratic candidate's religious outreach efforts.
WOW!!!!!
Alyssa Martin, and Im excited to be interning with the Religious Affairs department of the Obama campaign. I will be posting regular updates, and I look forward to having many positive faith-based discussions over the course of the summer
“The Houston mega-pastor Kirbyjon Caldwellwho presided over Jenna Bush’s wedding last month and has offered spiritual counsel to her fatheris a Christian VIP, so busy that his cell-phone voicemail says, “Do not leave messages here.” But on Friday mornings, whether he’s at church, in the car or on the golf course, Caldwell tries to dial into a certain highlevel conference call. At 9:30 Eastern time, a group of religious leaders gathers “telephonically,” as Caldwell puts it; for 15 minutes, they pray for Sen. Barack Obama.”
It’s all about skin color. Anyone with an ounce of morality would never support the obomination. That goes double for clergy.
I don’t think that Dr. Dobson would have said a word if the messiah had not used his name in the same sentence as Al Sharpton’s.
