Good article. But this statement:

"According to Islamic scholars, reciting the Shahada, the Muslim declaration of faith, makes one a Muslim. This simple yet profound statement expresses a Muslim's complete acceptance of, and total commitment to, the message of Islam."

Is not correct. Simple recitation of words alone is not sufficient for one to be recognized as a 'Muslim.'
Mere words are not enough. Just as with Christianity, Jewish, Buddhist, Hindu etc., it requires more than the utterance of words for one to be recognized as a devotee.

In speaking with a learned Muslim scholar about this, even making the aj is not enough. It requires much more.

Just a point of clarification.

FAIL!

Embracing Islam is as simple as making the formal “declaration of faith” (shahaadah), because believing this fundamental testimony is what makes one a Muslim.

Take it up with them.
