Good article. But this statement:

Is not correct. Simple recitation of words alone is not sufficient for one to be recognized as a 'Muslim.'
Mere words are not enough. Just as with Christianity, Jewish, Buddhist, Hindu etc., it requires more than the utterance of words for one to be recognized as a devotee.
In speaking with a learned Muslim scholar about this, even making the aj is not enough. It requires much more.
Just a point of clarification.
