It might be hoping for a lot, but if this “Malcolm” has mailed you anything about the magnetism problem, you should forward that to as many Sony customer service email addresses as possible. Even if you don’t have an email to forward, just send them a detailed explanation about what you endured, including the explanations they gave you.

It was all by phone but at this point, I’ll give anything a shot.
The laptop was probably the nicest machine I’ve ever owned but the screen has “crop circles” all along the sides of the LCD.
A Google search brought up a *lot* of Sony LCD issues that are just like mine.
It was a bad batch of screens....and they don’t care.
