Thompson for Veep? (Tom McClintock hopes so)
Human Events ^ | 26 June 2008 | Wendy Schibener

California State Sen. Tim McClintock thinks Sen. John McCain should choose his former primary opponent, Fred Thompson for his running mate. McClintock made that statement at the Newsmaker Conference on May 24, hosted by The American Spectator and Americans for Tax Reform.

As a self-proclaiming, “real” conservative Republican, Sen. McClintock wishes for a return to Reagan conservatism in Congress and in the Oval Office. McClintock also expressed tepid enthusiasm for the GOP’s presidential nominee, Sen. John McCain.

“I was Fred Thompson’s state-wide chairman,” said McClintock. “McCain was not my first choice. He was not my second. He was not my third, fourth or fifth choice either. We can see the difference between a ‘fire’ and a ‘fireman’ and I think you are going to see that reality take hold in coming days among conservatives in California.”

McClintock insists his desire to return to traditional conservative principles is shared among his constituents. With strong convictions on issues including immigration, gay marriage, and the Iraq war, McClintock supports the “old school” values of the Reagan administration.

How about Larry Elder for VP?

Nope.

Larry has turned out to be Comprehensive Immigration Reform supporter.

He is really a disappointment on that issue!

I would instantly buy a McCain ‘08 bumper sticker. And I despise McCain.

Au contraire. They’ll put up a fight regardless and their goal is to destroy the nominee absolutely.

I like Fred a lot despite his vote for McCain-Feingold. I don’t think he would add much to this ticket, besides perhaps a bit of enthusiasm among conservatives. I would look forward to seeing him debate Webb/Clark/Sebelius or whatever far lefty the Dems put up.

When I saw Thompson though I almost thought this article would be about Tommy Thompson. Perhaps McCain could win WI with him. too bad he seemed to be a little befuddled during the GOP debates, and did not make a good impression.

Tommy was embarrassing. I was embarrassed for him in the debates. Everythime he spoke I was asking myself “why is this man on the stage, pity?” He was probably a great governor, and is likely an even better man.

Tim McClintock thinks Sen. John McCain should choose his former primary opponent, Fred Thompson for his running mate.

Thompson's a good man but what's the point? The man has made it clear that:

1 - He doesn't need nor care for politics in his life (at least currently).

2 - He can be talked into entangling himself against his own wishes, only to bail at the earliest opportune moment.

Not a true conservative.

I would prefer Duncan Hunter, but that's just me.

A lot of stuff really gits behind and expecially stuff that needs rapid refutin!!! (kinda like that rascally Putin)
