This could be good in the long run. Judges tend to react poorly when people try to weasel around their rulings; the result when this gets back through the courts could be even tighter limits on the range of gun regulations that governments can get away with imposing.
Let’s see now, the SS Beretta FS-92 would be illegal and they are about to make my CVA .50 cal rifle illegal. The only thing automatic seems to be Mayor Fenty’s mouth. He prompted and promoted the case of Parker, et al. v D.C. and appealed the D.C. v Heller case to SCOTUS. The ridiculous statistics D.C. presented on effectiveness of the ban did not hoodwink the Court. What the Mayor SHOULD be doing is attempting to apologize for the total of 32 years residents of the District were denied 2nd amendment guarantees. He and other city mayors have the bent to remove guns from law-abiding people and be ineffective at reducing crime. They then turn in desperation to disarm people who committed no crime. They are not uniformed or misinformed - they are just stupid. Meanwhile, residents were dying, more like playing the fiddle while Rome burned.
