Last year I planted a cherry tree in my front yard, this year 3 of my neighbors had babies. Therefor, planting cherry trees cause pregnancy.

Disagree, some one with lots of stickers obviously wants to “get in your face” and seeks it out via all those bumper tickers. So there is a cause and effect here.

The phrase “linked to” doesn’t necessarily imply causation, it implies correlation, which is a fact.
If people who had a newborn in the last year tended also to have a cherry tree in the yard this would also imply an association, but not necessarily causation.
Some third factor in each case is where the causation lies (i.e. tendency to emote forcefully in the bumper sticker case).
