Just to add to the previous excellent responses, here is a website which offers a good explanation of what “Evangelicals” believe to be required for salvation. I belong to a non-denomination church, which is frequently described as “Evangelical,” and this is certainly what we believe. My son is also attending a college which describes itself as “Evangelical,” and this describes their basic tenants as well.

However, some talking heads would define “Evangelical” differently. I’ve noted that their descriptions center more around politics than religion.

Ahh, and that’s precisely why I questioned the media’s use of the word, “Evangelical.”

I’m sure they use it to make it appear that all Christians are guilty of politicizing their religion.
