Don’t they acutally charge you a huge fee just to drive in the core area of London on a daily basis? Were in the hell to they get the money to pay for all this?

My new son-in-law's Dad drives in London frequently- he said it is so bad, that you can get a ticket if you even slow down in the wrong place (like near a parking spot). You get a camera ticket in the mail, and you do not get to even dispute it.

On a visit last year, he drove my daughter and his son around London, but they could not get out to go anywhere because parking is so expensive. You can take the train, but it is ridiculous as well.

After listening to them, England sounds really awful.

It's just mind-boggling to read these stories about a nation I always admired. I can't imagine the level of frustration people must feel.

No wonder many nations are preparing to repel citizen revolts. I expect the same trend here in the US, especially if Obama takes office.

It was sobering, and I just want to bring them all over here.

They marveled at our trucks (" only a millionaire would have this truck in England" for an 05 GMC PU), our refrigerator (just an average refrigerator) and the lack of traffic cameras, the portion size and cheap cost of restaurant food, the price of clothing ( they went nuts at JC Penny's), free parking, free driving ( w/o cameras).

In the setting up of the wedding, Mr RB had occasion to whip out his pocket knife, and they commented that a knife like that (4" blade) would be illegal in England.

As for the frustration, I did notice that they drank a lot more than your average American, but that just might be a cultural thing...probably the average American drinks less than the average European.

They are wonderful people, and my heart breaks for them.
