My mother’s family spent about two months in Cuba every winter from the early 1920s (except during WWII) until the year before Castro (they usually went just after New Year’s and he came to power on New Year’s Eve). They said that it was BY FAR the nicest island, from a vacation standpoint, in the Caribbean. And that is generally the only reason people go there now. There are some businesses there, some diplomats, but most of the people going to Cuba are vacationers.

With the exception of some very high ranking officials, Cubans generally ARE NOT allowed to leave. There are programs where Cuban doctors are occasionally allowed to travel to the US and Europe for medical training, but their families are basically held hostage to insure that they return.

And there is NO DOUBT in my mind that if he had the FREEDOM to tell the truth, Elian’s father would have wanted him to stay in the United States (in fact, he probably would have wanted to move here and bring the rest of his family).

I just had to come back for one more. I don't have time to give you my resume and address the other personal attacks and issue. Nor will I report them as you felt the need to do, but your last reply got me laughing. It sums up your case "Unlikely" (from earlier) and "No Doubt."

Strong basis to take a kid from his father. Your expert testimony.

You said: Worse, you're no better than Fidel wanting to take control away from the parent.

How so? Because Fidel takes control of children away from their parents? A child cannot be returned to a parent in a country where the government takes away control of people's children from their parents.

You are not defending parental rights because there are no parental rights in Cuba.

You are defending Communism. Period. You are a "useful idiot."

None are so blind as those who will not see....

I really wonder if your emotional blasts allow you to see how foolish and truly naive you appear on this forum. By these emotion charged comments, you show a bewildering lack of concept of communism and just what happened. Please check out with more calm friends, and a mirror, to see how you have blinded yourself and perhaps you may preserve any other vestiges of conservative values you truly possess.

Alas, that is what emotional response can do, and creates a mess called liberals. The cure is truth. Please do not return to this thread sounding like a DU liberal. Cool down a bit, first.

Cut your losses, I urge. Otherwise people may think you are a leftie or sumpin...

What are you trying to say about the “concept of communism” and “(t)he cure is truth”?

I take umbrage about my comments, by the way. I think about people who escaped E. Berlin and N. Korea, and have no doubt in my mind that their children would not have been returned had the parents died to make them free.

Furthermore, I believe that by surrounding himself with people, e.g., Axelrod, who orchestrated taking Elian from his relatives, Obama has revealed his intentions. Witness his early childhood programs he now reveals.
