McCain is the “Amnesty King.” He does more than just vote for amnesty. He authors and sponsors the legislation. He did in 2006 [S 2611] and got it passed in the Senate and then in 2007—McCain-Kennedy. This guy is a true believer. He is incapable of changing his position on this issue.

While that is correct, it would be more accurate to say that McCain negotiated a compromise on an immigration bill with Kennedy.

As for 2006, the McCain-Kennedy compromise did not have enough votes for cloture, so the Hagel-Martinez compromise was piled on top of McCain-Kennedy and an additional 10 republicans voted for cloture(40 dems and 23 GOP).

Additionally, AgJobs was the template for McCain-Kennedy and it was negotiated between the growers and the union.
