Israel justified over military exercise - Obama

Florida: US presidential candidate Barack Obama said that Israel is justified in providing for its security amid the "extraordinary threat" posed to it by Iran.
He spoke after The New York Times quoted unnamed US officials as saying that Israel had carried out a large military exercise this month that appeared to be a rehearsal for a potential bombing attack on Iran's nuclear facilities.
Democrat Obama, who is running against Republican John McCain in the November election, was asked at a news conference in Jacksonville, Florida whether Israel was right to carry out the exercise.
He said, "Without access to the actual detailed intelligence, I want to be careful about characterising what was done and whether it was appropriate or not."
But he added that the Jewish state was right to be concerned about the anti-Israel comments of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and about Tehran's support for Hezbollah and Hamas.
"And so there is no doubt that Iran poses an extraordinary threat to Israel and Israel is always justified in making decisions that will provide for its security," Obama said.
More than 100 Israeli F-16 and F-15 fighters reportedly took part in the manoeuvres over the eastern Mediterranean and Greece in the first week of June.
The exercise appeared to be an effort to focus on long-range strikes and illustrates the seriousness with which Israel views Iran's nuclear programme.

Israel most certainly is justified to hold exercised. Every country in the world is justified in practicing war games.
The real question should be if Israel would be justified in attacking Iran and if the United States should help or hinder the effort.

I bet he really hated having to answer that one. He’s gotta be feeling the pressure of national-level politics. He’ll trip up more and more. Kinda gives me a warm glow waiting for it, running up and down my leg.
If the GOP plans on winning the WH, they better have a thorough collection of his statement from 1995 - April 2008 and use them daily against him. He has moderated like no one in history in the past 2 weeks.
I think he is more a panderer.
According to Obama, Israel can defend themselves, but the U.S. can't. We are supposed to negotiate with Iran, yet Israel isn't required to. Our planes on UN sanctioned fly-overs of Iraq were continually being shot at, but according to Obama, we weren't supposed to take out the slime ball ordering it. Saddam Hussein refused to comply with UN Security Council resolutions, murdered his own people, threatened his neighbors, and we weren't supposed to remove him from power. Iran refuses to stop enriching uranium, sends terrorists and bombs to murder our soldiers, and threatens its neighbors, and Obama thinks it's okay for Israel to take military action to protect itself. His statements are so outrageously inconsistent, yet it's no big deal with the media, because he's their guy.
Way to go, Obama! This is going to sit REAL good during your future meeting with Ahmahnutjob.
