Energy: The public wants more oil, but Democrats keep offering the same solutions, not one of which includes drilling and all of which are asinine. Do they think the American people are fools?
Meanwhile, a new Reuters/Zogby poll found that 60% of the public is in favor of increased drilling and refining, while two-thirds responding to a Rasmussen poll including 46% of those who call themselves liberal think drilling should be allowed offshore.
Not to be outdone, a Gallup poll discovered that 57% are in favor of a new wave of drilling "in U.S. coastal and wilderness areas now off limits."
It seems Americans are well aware that members of Congress, not the oil executives they've demonized for decades, are to blame for the punitive prices we are having to pay at the gas pump. They want lawmakers to do something about it.
But as long as Democrats remain in the congressional majority, it's unlikely that prices will fall even modestly. The solutions the party is offering are, at best, useless. Actually, we're being overly generous, because the Democrats' answers to the oil issue are childish responses that would do more harm than good.

"We can't drill our way out of this" --- A catchy phrase that rolls off the tongue yet means nothing (or anything you want it to).
Maybe it's time for some reverse propaganda, our own catchy phrase that highlights the Democrats' twisted logic.
The liberal solution to any crisis: raise taxes!
The proper response to Dem proposal: We can't TAX our way out of this!
No, but the dims are in a real bind. They have been bought and sold by the enviropunks who they are now afraid of making mad. It does not matter what city or town in America you live in. The best organized group of activists are united by the environment and their hatred of cars, oil and population growth. If you don't believe me, just take a look at the Letters To The Editor in any city with a newspaper, or go to a city council meeting. The most vocal people you read or listen to are on the left and their cocktail parties center on talk of the environment or getting even with big business.
Now if that is the most outspoken element of your support, you dare do anything to pi$$ them off. So, the politics ain't easy for the dims and IMHO, thats good news for republicans. Too bad their are so few good ones...
True. And the GOP is so desperately, quakingly, weepingly afraid of bad press in the MSM that they have sold out to the environuts almost as completely.
Another thing they keep saying is that it’ll take ten years to realize any benefit from drilling, but I haven’t heard anyone ask them why they think alternative fuels will take less time than that.
i wish the republicans who are in the public eye
would explain this to the american public of democrats.
they think “big oil” is the cause of the problem.
We have lost this war because we let the left take over the education of our youth.
Chicken Little was right, the sky is falling.
I am not willing to give up as easy as you seem to
This is (I’m hoping) going to be the issue that kills the Dems in November. They can’t back away from their “no-drilling” “no coal” positions because the environmentalist wing won’t let them and the Quiche and Latte crowd doesn’t give a damn about the price at the pumps.
But the working class schlubs who drive? This is definitely an issue they care about. Even the most moronic Dem voter screams in agony when he pulls up and sees the prices.
And even an announcement that we had started drilling again would put strong negative pressure on prices.
That’s going to be tough to prove.
I know what you mean.
Everyone in the media knew that Clinton was a draft-dodging, pot-smoking, skirt-chasing socialist goon with ties to the Arkansas mafia and God knows what else... but they wanted him and they went to bat for him whenever necessary through his entire Presidency.
It was the media that decided Clinton would be President. It was the media that reelected him. The media wanted Kerry almost as bad, but were blindsided by the brave swiftboat patriots who did an end-run around them via the Internet. They won’t let that happen again.
Now Obama is getting the same protection and nurturing that Clinton received. His gaffes simply don’t make the news for more than a single cycle and are shuffled off into no-where just as fast as they can make it happen.
But THIS issue... this is one they can’t quite bury because voters feel the reality of it every time they go shopping for food or pull into a gas station.
What the enviroweenies don’t get is that to the vast majority of Americans, environmentalism is a luxury. Something they are willing to put up with and maybe even agree with, as long as it is not too costly or doesn’t inconvenience them too drastically.
But what happens when it does? And we are reaching that point now. I don’t know who said it first, but if it comes down to going hungry or the last spotted owl on the planet, guess what’s for dinner? I am pretty sure that most Americans feel the same way.
I know exactly, what you mean.....This issue, affects the pocket book / $$$$$....something that affect all middle-class voters
this issue "cuts" only one way....against the "foes of economic freedom".....
theres' no real "downside" for conservatives, there's only problem.....and thats' McCAIN's (g*d d@mn) EGO.
Democrats need to keep standing in front of this train. They will be run over by it and swept out of office before they know what hit them.
“What Do The Democrats Take Us For?”
Everything we’ve got.
Do the Dems take the American public for fools? The answer is obviously yes. The Dem/lib elite believe most Americans are too stupid to run their own lives. They will gladly take over the task of running peoples lives. Into the ground.
