Puleeze. No need for insulting a fellow FR.

As a Christian, I do NOT condone homosexual behavior in any way, manner or form. I still think that the ad’s purpose is not in showing an out and out homosexual couple. As a consumer, it seems the commercial is portraying “Mum” as a NY deli sandwich maker because the product (mayo) is sooooooo great. No great stretch at all (and what on earth does this have to do with SCOTUS?!).

Unfortunately, in England and Europe this commercial will probably not cause many eyebrows to rise at all, not like here in the U.S. because they embrace homosexuality in their media and tv shows, etc. while we still have people fighting that here in the U.S.

No insult meant.

The SCOTUS reference was to those on the court who see or read plain english (The Constitution) and see things that are not there or completely misinterpret it, as I think you have done with this commercial. JMHO

Thanks for the Archie link. That was indeed a classic

Disagree with this statement: “it seems the commercial is portraying “Mum” as a NY deli sandwich maker because the product (mayo) is sooooooo great. “

There’s an easier way to show that—have a female actor wearing a deli chef’s uniform.

Advertisers and Marketers aren’t stupid. They obsess over interpretations and double entrendes. They thought through every interpretation before they put this together. This is just an example of European marketers pushing the envelope.
