I don’t believe Americans would so easy part with their weapons. Love to see the Gov. try though.

If you wait until the police/troops come to your house, it is too late. The best defense is an offense.

“The best defense is an offense.:

Agreed.

In 1999 BATF estimated 291 million guns owned in the US. There are people with massive arsenals out there. IMO, the Gov would be crazy to assume they could take them all. But, the Gov has been known to be crazy and so have the citizens

You must be a chess player.

Just as in chess, the situation will be visible to all. One side will attempt to destroy the other. But the winner will not necessarily be the first to attack the other's queen (the queen being the most powerful piece on the board).

Rather the victory may be determined by the placement of a pawn here or a pawn there. These pawns may not even be located at the apparent point of attack.

Prior to our American Revolution, the government attempted to enforce laws requiring the purchase of stamps on all official documents. Did our Founders take up arms and march on Parliament? Of course not. Instead they made it impossible from a practical standpoint for anybody to sell the required stamps.

Similarly, at such times as confiscation appears to be unavoidable, freedom loving people will see to it that such laws cannot be enforced. It will be a problem for the enforcers to recognize that they must choose sides.

But as you point out, the best defense is a good offense.
