We mouth breathers in flyover country simply couldn’t make it through our pathetic little lives each day without the guidance of our elected officials. Their lives are so much more valuable than ours, for after all, we would just shrivel up and die without them! So it’s vitally important that these, our saviours, be permitted to carry guns. Now excuse me while I look for my drool cup.

My posts were a side issue. In general I hold that America works best when all citizens are equal before the law and none have special entitlement. The protections from criminal prosecution afforded public officials in the performance of their duties should be read narrowly and not expansively. E.g. Off-duty cops in New York State and City should NOT be allowed to carry if upstanding citizens in general are not allowed the same, and they are not. And yes the anti-gun laws in NY are far beyond that the Second might allow. The best --- and most lawful -- would be for all upstanding citizens to be allowed to carry.
Also veterans should not be set up as a special class! We all have our duties, whether citizen, politician or vet. I hear many a vet complain about the special perks in life that politicians have granted themselves, yet where are the vets unwilling to take every special perk they can get. I am not talking about those with grievous war injury either. Vets wounded seriously in war are indeed deserving of a special entitlement as is any government employee harmed in some extraordinary service.
