I'm guessing that these teachers do think the Founding Fathers had the right idea, and they think that they have a right to privacy, and a right not to have their fingerprints in some criminal database if they haven't been accused or suspected of a crime.
They might even think, with some justification, that a requirement that they be fingerprinted or lose their jobs is a violation of their 4th Amendment rights -- which would be a conservative position, don't you think?
Note: I had to be fingerprinted to become a teacher, and also for my concealed carry permit, but I can see the teachers' point.
