None of the oil from the Trans Alaska Pipeline goes to other countries. If they opened up ANWR it would go to the same destination it now goes to - the lower 48.

The story you hear about ANWR is a big lie and the scale of the lie is gigantic. ANWR alone could aupply all American needs for oil for a couple of centuries.

I’m sure Schumer thought that no one was supposed to be smart enough to figure that out. After all, look what a bunch of dunces we have sent to ‘represent’ us.

You are right. It is illegal to export Alaskan oil.

We have the capacity to refine it as well. The Cherry Point Refinery in Washington State only runs at 50% capacity due to environmental restrictions. The people of the socialist state of Washington can only stand to have a limited number of tankers transiting Pudget Sound every day.

I am agree with respect to Drilling here, for the self sufficient part of it, but with the games played by OPEC I have a feeling they would cut production by whatever extra we produce...

Correct me if I’m wrong, but this wouldn’t be American oil for America, it would be oil going on to the world market; the exchange. We don’t have state run oil, so there’s no guarantee where it’s going, right?

Do you need a guarantee?

It is 3,577 miles from Valdez, Alaska to Tokyo, Japan.

It is 1,274 miles from Valdez, Alaska to Anacortes, Washington. (largest Washington refineries)

It is 2,253 miles from Valdez, Alaska to El Segundo, California (major refinery near Los Angeles)

The largest importer of oil is also the closest customer for Alaskan Oil.

Unless there is a short term upset condition, the oil will be used in the US. Just like the oil from Alaska is used today. However, oil is a global, fungible commodity and any additional supply helps reduce price.

It is illegal to export Alaskan oil.

It WAS illegal to export Alaskan North Slope oil.

When first built the pipeline oil could not be exported; that was part of the deal to get the pipeline approved through congress. The ban against exporting Alaskan North Slope was lifted in 1996 yet 100% of Alaskan North Slope oil is kept in America. This has been the case for all but 4 years of the nearly 3 decades of Alaskan oil production. Between 1996-1999 5.5% of North Slope oil was exported to Asian countries. These exports were overwhelmingly supported by the US Congress and by the Clinton Administration to offset an oil glut in California at the time. In June 2000 Alaskan North Slope oil again ceased to be exported, and 100% of Alaskan North Slope production has stayed in America.
