LOL!!! We know that Iraqis are watching the judicial process and we know the verdict they want...
But the quotes from Maliki in the article below have always bothered me more than any other. I believe it gives a glimpse into why the likes of Col Ewers were so eager to see convictions to help our long-term strategy in Iraq...

Yeah, Red. Their idea of justice is a wee bit different than ours on this case, your post spells it out beautifully.

Keep in mind, Red -- Sileh and al-Maliki don't have a bunch of FReepers to advise them on what the propaganda is they're subject to. Like me in the early 70's -- "The most trusted man in America" said it every night on SeeBS so it must have been true.
Our own State Dept. is at fault for a lot of the problems our troops get into -- they are infused with liberals who only act on their 'feelings' instead of facts.

al-Maliki: ....they crush them with their vehicles..
Having spoken with convoy members in Iraq, there are times and places where you simply don't stop. If the insurgents can stop the convoy, they can successfully kill it.
Safety demands that they continue to roll.

But the quotes from Maliki in the article below have always bothered me more than any other... Understandable, however, note the date and remember what was going on at that time. The real story was just beginning to be pieced together here on FR. Who knows how long it took Maliki to learn the whole story.
Note that he also said this would "play a role in future decisions on how long to ask American Forces to remain in Iraq"
Two years later and we are still there at his invitation. No worries! ;*)
