Russert's funeral arrangement has been made and is as follows: On Tuesday, June 17, 2008, a wake will be held at St Albans School in Washington, DC. It will be open to the public. According to the Washington Post, the public wake will be held from 2 to 9 p.m. eastern time in the Cafritz Refectory of the Albans School, which is between Wisconsin and Massachusetts avenues. Other private vigils are being held in the Washington and in Buffalo New York areas, where Russert grew up.

His funeral, which is closed to the public, will be held on Wednesday June 18, 2008 at 4 p.m. eastern. The funeral will take place at the Washington's Kennedy Center. It will be televised by MSNBC and will be available for broadcast by other media outlets later.

St. Albans is Episcopalian. I had assumed Russert was Catholic.

Good grief! I’m sorry the guy dropped dead-—but so did a lot of other people that day. Am I missing something here-—what exactly is it that elevated a “talking head” to the status of national hero?

sainthood to follow the brunch

I didnt mind the guy and I certainly feel for his family - but even the coverage is disproportionate to the situation

Cspan often carries these funerals but I didn’t see it on their schedule. If you’re a Christian, it’s powerful to see a service carried out over the airwaves.

Russert was a CINO as evidenced by his working and advocacy for pro-infanticide politicians.

One more batch of thread comments reflecting what I call the Hillbilly Effect. “If it ain’t all about me and mine, I’m tired of hearing about it.” FR used to be better than that.

Just about any religious service carried out in response to a tragedy becomes an all-faiths fiasco where the only name that matters is never mentioned: Jesus Christ.

St. Albans is right next to the National Cathedral which is also nominally Episcopalian but also the site of many state funerals.

Russert did received a Jesuit education from Canisius High School in Buffalo. He received his B.A. from John Carroll University, which is also Catholic.
