What is the mentality of a 49 year old woman that gets her “jollys” messing with kids online?

I couldnt talk to a 16 year old for 2 minutes without being bored out of my mind.

I agree.

I don't wholly blame the mother of the other girl in this case though. I believe the parents of the young girl who died were remiss in their duties as parents in that they did not monitor their child's activities on the internet. Combine that with the fact the child had a history of some sort of mental or emotional problems; depression I think it was, and it's easy to see the parents should have paid closer attention to what was going on with their daughter.

The mother who portrayed herself as a teen boy is pretty sick herself and needs some serious help herself.

Especially these days. Kids today are dumber and more superficial than I can ever remember.

It's hard to say what makes people get this way. The mother was upset because the girl had played a lot of tricks on her daughter, had been her friend but then stabbed her in the back and turned others against her. The mother, having seen how the girl hurt her daughter, wanted to protect her, so she got the idea to make a pretend friend to see if she could get a confession from the girl. Now, this will be more from the mother's point of view, which I'm not saying is the correct point of view, just a contrary position. I have no idea what the truth really is here, beyond the facts that are known. The mother picked a 16-year-old boy (the girl was I believe 13 or 14). But the girl "fell in love with" the boy. The mother, seeing this going bad, decided it would be best to stop it, and a friend helping run the Josh site decided to have a break-up (I think megan had asked to MEET Josh). The way she broke up was cruel and inhuman.

I wondered why Megan's mom allowed her to have an online relationship with a boy years older than her -- I would NEVER let my daughter have a boyfriend like that. But I also would never have stooped to setting up a fake myspace account to spy on a 13-year-old.

Of course, in THIS trial the issues are more mundane. Did the mother lie when setting up the myspace account? Did she use the account to purposely mislead others and commit a fraud? It seems SOMEBODY did, the mother claims a friend of hers did so, and her young friend (actually I think it's more a co-worker) admits to sending a lot of the messages, and the last cruel message).

Of course, Megan lied for HER myspace account as well, since she was not 14 at the time. In fact, there are probably LOTS of myspace accounts that were formed as a lie.

I told my daughter if she had an account, I had to be able to monitor it. But she didn't want to have her father as a friend, so instead she just gave me her password. Technically that might be a violation of the myspace agreement. If the government decides to prosecute people for lying to get accounts, a LOT of us could be in trouble.
