McCain’s comment on offshore drilling is worthless since he stipulated that the individual states could decide if they wanted to drill off of their coasts.

Florida and California will say No to drilling.

Just an another empty promise from a Senate Liberal.

Florida and California will say No to drilling.

Other states will say yes. And if the Federal ban is lifted, general resistance toward ANWR will diminish as well.

FL and CA can fight the battle within their states and drilling will prevail over time there as profits are seen in other states.

Get it out of Federal domain and give it to the States. That's where most stuff belongs. I hope McCain continues speaking about this.

Let us hope that the bottom falls out of the Florida tourist industry as the price of gasoline heads past $4. Seems the folks there (republican and democrat) need an economics lesson.
The idiots in California are hopeless.

Any state that prohibits, delays, or obstructs offshore drilling in any way should have a $5.00 per gallon surcharge imposed on all oil consumption in that state.

If a state says no to offshore drilling, then it should be at a price. Those who say yes should not be disadvantaged.

Those states who are energy independent(like Texas) should be able to add “access” costs to any gas or oil sent to the importer state. The access costs would recognize the environmental and other costs that are a valid part of the extraction and refining of hydrocarbons.

Frankly, I am getting tired of my state shouldering an unfair burden of the energy structure of this country. Example? Texas is the largest generator of wind power in the nation yet a wellknown but unmentioned NE state won’t even allow windmills to be built off its coast.

So you're not an advocate of States Rights? You prefer the Fed. Gov't rules?

Can't cherry pick. The Constitution is clear on States' Rights issues versus Federal.

Besides, Florida and California hardly control all the Gulf. We don't need drilling off every state. We just need to beat Mexico and China before they get the fields sewed up.

Good Lord. The man is saying let's drill. Just because he's the one who finally advocates it is not a reason to decry it because it won't be controlled by the Fed. gov't, but by the individual states, per the Constitution.

There are 6 more states on the gulf. count them
