There are NO parental rights under Cuban law. Children are expressely the property of the state (and the state is Fidel). The mother made her wishes explicitly clear when she died getting her child to freedom. Case closed.

his mother died trying to get Elian to freedom in the USA; that left the father, under Castro, to decide Elian should be a good Communist .. with a little help from Janet Reno.
