This happens a lot in Asia, I live in Thailand, and people pay big money to a job placement agency to get them a job, and it is common for the women promised good jobs in restaurants , and offices to end up like this, and men with no job when they arrive and no way to get home, they get arrested for being an illegal alien, and their government won’t help them to get home until they can get in touch with the UN or a NGO to publicise it so their gov’t has no choice but to help them get home. It’s really sad and it happens often to impoverished young women desperate to find better circumstances. Imagine that $75 a week sounds like so much money you’d be willing to move to a foreign country to work. They probably have dreams of earning a living, supporting family, meeting a nice young man and having a family and a better standard of living, by going elsewhere and working in a factory or restaurant for a few years. Instead, they’re taken to a brothel, sans passport, ID or money and no way to escape. It’s a life of abuse and neglect.

These young women are someone’s daughter, someone’s sister, maybe someone’s mom. It’s heartbreaking.
