"Suppose you were an idiot and suppose you were a member of Congress. But I repeat myself." --Mark Twain
Paging Senator Canute?
Almost 1000 years ago, standing on the beaches of England, King Canute commanded the tides to go back out to sea. A crowd watched as the tide ignored him; the water lapping at his feet--as he knew it would.
Canute put on the demonstration to highlight the limits of his power. Canute spoke these words to remind his advisers where he stood in the cosmic scheme of things:
"Let all men know how empty and worthless is the power of kings. For there is none worthy of the name but God, whom heaven, earth and sea obey".
Canute was surely too wise and humble to qualify for today's U.S. Senate. In the senate chamber, 100 make laws for 300 million; arrogance and a false sense of power are increasingly in fashion.
And count Barack Obama (D-IL), Chuck Hagel (R-NE) and Maria Cantwell (D-WA) among the most fashionable: the three senators have commanded that world poverty be gone.
The three "have introduced the Global Poverty Act (S.2433), which requires the President to develop and implement a comprehensive policy to cut extreme global poverty in half by 2015 through aid, trade, debt relief, and coordination with the international community, businesses and NGOs."
The House joined in the buffoonery, as Representatives Adam Smith (D-WA) and Spencer Bachus (R-AL) sponsored the House version of the bill (H.R. 1302), which passed the House in September.
The tricky trio wants the U.S. to shell out the bucks. But Joe Sixpack needn't worry: he's won't come up empty-handed after sending his tax dollars down another third-world rathole.

Lots of cool speeches.
Lots of new, higher taxes!
Exactly! That is a given!
What will U.S. taxpayers get in return?
::::::
Higher taxation to pay for global socialism.
Obama should take a job where he belongs — in the U.N.
Great pic!
You know, Obama going to work for the UN—that’s what we were talking about this morning. That’s pretty good.
Senator Cantwell... sigh. One of the great political discussions here in the cold and gray pacific northwest, while sitting around our fireplaces in June, is which one is dumber, Senator Cantwell or Senator Murray. Great fun.
which one is dumber, Senator Cantwell or Senator Murray. Great fun.
IMHO.....Fartwell is dumb and Murray is dumber.

You can say that again. Oh, you did. Cool.
OBAMA, TAX HIKER & PROUD: What a relief that Obama is a new politician with fresh ideas and a “post-partisan” way of looking at things. Who else could have thought up a plan to “save” Social Security so clever that all it takes is one gigantic tax hike? Why, no one inside the Beltway, that’s for sure!
Obama told residents of a retirement facility in Columbus, Ohio that his plan “allows us to extend the life of Social Security” without raising the retirement age or cutting benefits. All it takes is a job-destroying, anti-growth tax hike on incomes $250,000 and above.
Then, taking aim at McCain’s timid embrace of allowing individuals to own some of their retirement assets, Obama said: “Imagine if your security now was tied up with the Dow Jones ... You wouldn’t feel very confident about the security of your nest egg.”
No? Well, I’d rather take the risk of managing my money than “tying it up” with politicians who announce a “crisis” with our retirement funds every few years. Heck, I could get better returns out of my piggy bank. Laura I
They should be reminded of what Bono said: That George W. Bush has done more for Africa than *any* US President before him.
Then they should be asked, “Are you going to continue these good programs for Africa? Or do you just plan to throw money away, like US Presidents used to?”
Here’s something sure to cause indigestion for those who love Whacky Patty!:
In case you missed it ... the P-I’s politics blog has posted on an online rumor: Open Left reported last week that Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA), an early supporter of Hillary Clinton, has been approached as a possible vice presidential running mate for Sen. Barack Obama.
Open Left cites a “trusted inside source” and writes:
Murray was first elected to the Senate in Washington State in 1992, the “year of the woman” in the U.S. Senate. Murray would be a reinforcing pick for Barack Obama in that she is one of the few sitting Senators or Governors who opposed the Iraq war from the start, voting against the Authorization for the Use of Military Force against Iraq. back in October of 2002. Murray also mirrors Obama in that, before her career in electoral politics, she was a citizen activist and community organizer on environmental and educational issues.
Well, Id rather take the risk of managing my money than tying it up with politicians who announce a crisis with our retirement funds every few years. Heck, I could get better returns out of my piggy bank.
:::::::
The guy is a raving socialist, who would wipe out all wealth, personal property and rights/liberties for empowerment of a monolithic, tax-sucking government with ONE PARTY.
We would be looking at degeneration into something like the old Soviet Union mixed with the Netherlands. And most likely a revolution....

No, no no! You didn’t complete it. You forgot to add at the end, “and out of the US with both”.
