The president of the National Press Club today defended the club's playing host to allegations against Barack Obama from a fringe figure, Larry Sinclair, whose claims have been widely ignored by the news media.
"I'm not aware that we've ever turned anybody away for content," said Sylvia Smith, who is the Washington editor of the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette, adding that Sinclair's allegations of sex and drug use by Obama "don't seem very credible."
She said the Press Club, along with staging its own events, also rents space in its downtown Washington, D.C., headquarters to anyone willing to pay the fees.
"Would I pop my head in to the press conference? I doubt it. I have better things to do," she said of Sinclair's gathering.
A range of liberal blogs, including FireDogLake, DailyKos, TalkingPointsMemo, MyDD, and TaylorMarsh.com the last a center for pro-Clinton, anti-Obama organizing in the primaries are pressing the Press Club to cancel the event, which is scheduled for June 18, and circulating a petition with more than 7,000 signatures.
The activists complain that the use of the press club offers what one calls a "sheen of legitimacy" to a man who, among other crediblity questions, failed a polygraph test.
Didn’t he fail a lie detector test?
We’ll never know. They did not release the video or the results, only saying he showed deception on 2 questions in multi hour interrogation.
Will the Pueblo County (Colorado) Police be there to arrest him for his outstanding felony warrant?
What that suggests, of course, is that his charges were confirmed, but that they questioned him for hours until they were able to get him on a couple of minor technicalities.
It wouldn’t be hard to “fail” someone if you started out with that intention. I believe it’s standard to ask a number of irrelevant questions just to calibrate the responses, and it wouldn’t be hard to abuse such a system.
Yeah, they’ll be right there. Do you know if Donald Young will be attending?
Plus, the ‘expert’ was a quack.
Ping a ling
False flag.
In your uninformed opinion, indeed it is.
What? ...just asking, just asking?
Oh, there are lotsa cold blooded murders of gay black guys in Chicago. Even if it were say a cluster of three from Trinity United, it wouldn’t mean anything, would it?
This just makes me even more certain that it’s all a ‘Vast Left Wing Conspiracy’!
I don't know why they're complaining, Obama would probably fail one too.
the VLWC includes every single major media outlet in the country
It's the seriousness of the accusation you know!
You got that right.
It’s gonna be huge news in the coming weeks.
